Just for the record this year Rayner averages more inside 50’s, same amount of goals, more disposals with better efficiency, more kicks, handballs, contested possessions, uncontested possessions, intercept possessions, marks, contested marks, meters gained, stoppages and fantasy points. In your defence Elliot has almost one more tackle a game more. So how ‘ridiculous’ is it now?

Lions fans came out in numbers when he played 1 decent game against Collingwood and I knew I wouldn't see them for a while and alas we haven't. So with regards to Rayner, I've been spot on at every juncture.

Who knows, he may break out like a Jack Sinclair when he's like 28. He has good athletic traits but that's about it.

Cam Rayner is basically Alex Neal-Bullen who doesn't defend. Statistically and in terms of impact on games they match up well. Neal-Bullen has more tackles (much more), more disposals, more inside 50's and meters gained. And none of these players should be mentioned in the same breath as Elliott.

My stance on Rayner could not have been proven to be any more correct than it currently is. Remember when the lions fans said Rayner was a gun because he played a good game against the pies? since then, not a word.

If there's a Spargo thread we can talk about him there but Rayner is still the 25-30th best player in his draft based on career output to this point in his career.

If we look at a low team like hawthorn to support this, they have Sicily, Newcombe, Impey, Will Day, Dylan Moore, Breust, Mitch Lewis, Nash, Worpel, Jiath, Hardwick and Amon. I would even have Seamus Mitchell ahead of him but even if not that puts him at 13th best in one of the worst teams in the comp.

He needs to find more of the ball. If he's not defending or tackling and being a defensive pressure forward then he needs to find more of the footy. I'm not saying he's a poor player. He's just average.

Isn’t spargo a fringe player though. He was sub recently. In a team that has a horrendous forward line.

I haven’t minded cams impact tbh. Has played mainly up forward with stints in the midfield and down back. Gives us a nice point of difference.

Change the narrative again- you said 30th in his draft year, now you including every player in the league in the argument. Spargo- you said he is a better player and if the draft was done again you would pick him before Rayner. Now it’s he is a good pick for pick 29. He's currently the 6th best at the Lions in the 2023 MVP. 6th best in a top 4 side is a fair way off your claim of 15th best in most sides.

Not sure why you keep banging on about this 15 touch nonsense like it means something. He's spending the majority of his time deep in the forward line so 15 touches is expected. If you watched some of his recent games you would realise that he impacts quite a lot even with low possession numbers.

I really like watching Cam play. Only thing he’s missing right now is being able to kick true. Every time I see his touch it right now he usually creates something very promising. I love watching him break tackles and tank through traffic.
