Are you watching the bombers pregame on fox, danster168 ? The panel are discussing last nights game and Melbourne great Gary Lyons just said Rayner was as good as he has ever seen Petracca in a game 🥰

what makes you say his disposals are more damaging? Is he kicking goals with his disposals? No. is he getting metres gained with his disposals? No. His metres gained is horribly low. he doesn't run and carry the footy. He doesn't break lines.

He averages 12.7 disposals over his career. Spargo 11.2. I'm not saying Spargo is better but in terms of careers to date, it's quite close.

I am going to give you a bit of a mulligan here Danster, because I think you genuinely can't tell the difference in value between a guy disposing of the ball after crashing through traffic in a straight line to his own goal, and all other types of disposals. Study Nic Natainui and get back to us, we'll give you a second chance to understand this concept. :)

haha, and as consistent as Gary Rohan :) But you're missing the point. You realise he played well this time last year? What's the difference. I've never questioned that he can't play well once or twice a year. Hell every player in the afl can. Rayner needs to perform well once a month first, instead of 2-3 times a year and being useless in the other games. He has a long way to make up for his bad games because he is just so inconsistent. Well consistently poor with the odd good game.

Danny you’re going to be the last one to the party. Even Melbourne Demons greats rate him highly. It’s time to join us, Danny.

He had 7 score involvements and 2 direct assists to go with 412m gained. I’d say that’s pretty impactful wouldn’t you?

Spargo can’t even get a game lol. It’s not close whatsoever pal
huh? why are you judging Rayner based off his career game and not on his usual output? So last week he wasn't impactful but this week he is now impactful? That makes no sense. Rayner has been fringe his whole career. I was promised a breakout last year, it never came. Other than being sub worthy in the prelim and grand final what has he done in his career other than being a once every 10 week flash in the pan?

Lol Elixuh, you know I'm ahead of the curve. I got all of these overreactions last year after the Collingwood game. Everyone came at me. I held firm. I knew he'd be the spud I know he is and he answered my call and continued being poor for the rest of the season, meanwhile Rayner fans went quiet. No-one has managed to tell me why this season is any different.

Even when I asked Rayner fans to give me their predictions for the upcoming season, not 1 person had the courage to back their man in so it's too late now. No-one can jump on retrospectively.

I said dusty and petracca comparisons if you remember.

Rd 5 and Melbourne Demons greats are already making the comparisons. So that’s a tick for me. Join us Danny.

lol answer my question :) why is this year any different to last season :)

Happy Christian Bale GIF

You asked why his possessions are impactful. We know he is a low possession player - nobody would disagree with that. But generally speaking he gets involved in scoring chains and can be very damaging in the middle. He is also becoming more consistent with career highs in disposals and tackles this year so far…so he is working harder both ways as well

he's getting more disposals because he's playing more midfield time that's all.

it was pretty clear why no rayner fans wanted to predict his 2024. I took note of it.
You’ve backtracked on your predictions ever since. First it was too early to bring them up, then it was about his predicted goals, now it’s that you didn’t know what his role was going to be…I’m beginning to think you might not be posting in good faith

Nobody bar you thought it was anything but pointless given his precise role was unknown, and can yet change week to week. The one thing we do know is you have predictably under-estimated his output and by a fair margin.

Ridiculously overrated.

Comparisons to Petracca is offensive really. Petracca was a well established senior player at the same age and games mark.

Rayners highest disposal in a game is only 22 and that was back in his first year.
Not anymore baby - he’s blown that out to 25, which he has achieved twice.

Rayner does need to be a lot more consistent. Most Lions fans would agree with that. He isn't going to be a consistent 25 disposal player. But, the touches he does get are normally high impact and last night he dominated the first qtr with a million clearances that set the Lions win up. Rayner is more damaging with 15 -18 disposals then some mids who get 30 touches and go sideways or backwards.

Also I think we can all agree that Cam Rayner has well and truly got Spargo covered by the length of the Flemington straight.

It's time for the coaches to just embrace Pumba as the midfield beast that he is. After his dominant first quarter, he went back to the half forward line where it's much harder to have consistent outputs.

Time to see if he can find consistency as a mid. If he can... Watch out danster168
