nothing like stringer we've been through this before

Sure he is.
In fact, Rayner's been a bit of a disappointment if you go by draft selection/expectations.

But being a Brissie man, you would never ever entertain such a thought.

And yes, play a couple of highlights to try and get your point across 👍

He did not improve on from last year and therein lies the issue with Rayner. He is athletically blessed. Has a great physique (6ft'2 & 95kg's) and yet, can not average more than a goal per game/14-15 disposals throughout the season.

Isaac Heeney showed similar glimpses for years on end before hitting his straps in 2021. Rayner's going on 26 years of age and approaching 163 games. Not sure he ever amounts to anything more than moments of brilliance. I guess similar to Jake Stringer in many ways who did a lot more earlier in his career too.

You waited too long for the punch line. You've got to set the bait much earlier in the post. See, until mighty_lions brought it up I hadn't even read past the second sentence.

I can help you, but at the moment you're not helping yourself with some real unforced errors.

you are right, I would never entertain the thought, I could start to quote commentators in the media, "you cant tackle this man" Garry Lyon. The corn and king comparing other teams players to cam, this is their cam Rayner, never heard anyone say this is their Jake stringer

Stringer has basically played as a key forward his entire career hes 192cm and the times when he went through the middle was more because of how shit Essendon were

I would say hes the hardest player to tackle in the history of the game, there are times when I watch and think definitely going to get caught and finds away to bust through it, the peak dusty fend off maybe his Rayner covered but no one else does

and who doesnt love a cam Rayner highlight reel

Every team in the comp would want Rayner in their side during finals, says it all.

Can bust games open, kick winning goals. Imagine trying to critic him because he doesn't average 30 fluff disposals a game, playing as a high half forward.

He isn't without his negatives, had 0 touches in the first quarter last night but routinely finds a way to get involved when it matters. 22 touches & 2 goals in 3 quarters in a big game, yeah he is pretty darn' good.

Every great side needs a bit of everything around the ball, accumulators (Neale/Ashcroft), pace (Bailey/McCluggage), defensive work ethic (Dunkley) and match winners (Rayner). He plays his role perfectly, give me 20 touches & 2 goals from Cam any day of the week and we've likely won the game.

also who's disappointed? certainly not me

He is a long way short of Dustin Martin

He is also a bit more than a 'solid footballer'.

How about this dart from 60m - gets the handball, takes four steps, and keeps it low and fast to avoid it getting touched, lands right through the middle. Sublime

I was awaiting a really special highlight from your post and you just posted a basic kick on goal from just outside 50 on the run with no pressure on him. Solid footballer, nothing more nothing less.

there's no pressure because you cant tackle him, no one wants to get near pumbaaaaaa

Nah, our offensive scoring is fine enough without him.

Mannagh may not get the media hype but he's giving us more than what Rayner does and at a fraction of the cost.
Throw in Dempsey, another player producing a slightly bit more than Cameron and no . . . not every team in the comp wants him thanks.

We'd happily take Dunkley though 🤣

Quite a bit of chat on the Cats board about needing to tag Rayner.

I'm a bit more concerned with a Zorko to be honest. The team gravitates around his overall work-rate while the icing on the cake (Rayner) finish off the hard work.

Rayner isn't really capable of playing four consistent quarters. It's why he's pretty overrated in my book.

Yeah Collingwood enjoy their guns getting easy kicks, being selfish, squibbing contests and flopping like a dead fish.

Comparing Shaun Mannagh to Cam Rayner, its like than Danster bloke brining up Spargo. Absolute brain dead rubbish, you and Danny would get along, like the old senile blokes on the muppet show.

Agree on Zorko - he’s their spirit animal.

On Rayner - no club has or would want a team full of players who go at it consistently for 4 quarters. Momentum matters and you need players who can put on a 10 minute burst to either put you into a strong position or get you back in a game. In the past I think Rayner has been less likely to put on a burst when the Lions have been losing. He has been turning that around for the past year or so.

S. Pete

arent you the poster who said the hugh mccluggages of the world are a dime a dozen and neale is one of the most overrated players in the competition?

id sit out discussions on brisbane players if i were you. maybe just football in general.

In the 2019 QF, Cam took a series of contested marks out on the Gabbatoir members wing - Dad then said "Rayner was born to play finals". Looks increasingly likely that's the case. I'd put him top 5 in terms of Lions' players opposition should prioritise stopping. We couldn't lay a hand on him on Sunday, he ****ing mauled us

Sorry Rise but the last thing the Cats need is another 15 disposals & 1 goal per game mid/forward as they have enough of those already.

I'm sure you will be eagerly hoping Cats get done in the finals given you have very little else to look forward to.

What a sad and irrelevant piece of research you've completed there. To be clear, in a Cam Rayner thread, you have gone and counted which Geelong opponents did/didn't have 5 day breaks across a whole season and compiled a big analysis based on one person saying they are okay as far as forward/mids.

They must have some board games or something to keep you occupied in the nursing home.
