Wonder how Charlie Spargo to North affects Rayner’s position in the redraft?
Speaking of which, I walked into a bar in Sydney this arvo and saw Charlie Spargo, Banana Fritta, UDL, Andy Brayshaw and Shaun Mannagh all sitting at a table together. I thought it was a bit of an odd grouping, but they were there for quite a while and huddled around an ipad together rather intently, wistfully, longingly even, while sipping their vodka LDU's. After a good half hour of this and them barely saying a word, almost in awe of whatever they were watching, curiosity got the better of me and I snuck a peek over their shoulders on my way to the bathroom.

Turns out they were watching highlight videos of two time premiership player Cam Rayner. Hopefully they were able to learn a thing or two to take back to their respective clubs for season 2026.

Been a bit of discussion around the traps as to what this "conversation" was all about between Harris Andrews and Bailey Sniff late in the game. Word has it that Harris was merely making a straightforward observation about the brown stain and awful smell emanating from Bailey's otherwise pristine white shorts, but it really hurt poor Bailey's feelings. Seems as though Bailey had a little bit of an "accident" when he got demolished (twice) by two time premiership player Cam Rayner earlier in the last quarter.

Love watching Rayner play, absolute gun.
Unlike Smith, Rayner knows when to bring out the swagger.
If you talk the talk before the game you have to walk the walk.
If you walk the walk in the game you can talk the talk.
But if you fail to walk in the game you damn well better keep your mouth shut if you don't want to become a meme!

In a hindsight 2017 draft, I'd without thinking take Sam Taylor ahead of Rayner. Anyone else would require a lot of consideration. He's definitely 2-4 in that pool. Brisbane would 100% take him again at #1. Not just an outstanding player, but the ultimate clubman - I have it on very good authority that he has turned down serious money from Victorian clubs (one of which tried to weave emotion/family meaning in to their pitch) to remain at the Lions.

And by the way, he'd probably appease you statnerd Supercoach merchants with the weekly 25+ touches and a goal if he played for a perennially mediocre Docklands tenant - the unfortunate reality is that genuine roleplayers like Cam are a design feature of premiership winning systems. In his first two winning Grand Finals, all-time Hawthorn and global sporting legend Sam Mitchell managed 13 & 12 disposals... in both matches his team-first attitude was a significant reason as to why we saluted. 2014 he had 33 touches and 2015, 34 - but go ask any Hawthorn premiership player from the 21st century which performance mattered most.
Brayshaw, Naughton, Bailey, Richards, Taylor, Moore all well before him.

Probably take Miers before him as well.

He is a good player, but he is in the perfect situation for him. The 6 mentioned all much much more complete players.

Sit back and enjoy Rayner fans >

That goal against Collingwood on his left foot was easily the 3rd best goal of the year by anybody, only behind Zac Bailey's 25m over-the-head job against Freo and Will Ashcroft's out-of-mid-air volley in the prelim.

The fact none of these goals (certainly the first two) even won goal of the week let alone was in the running for goal of the year speaks volumes for the stupidity of the people who vote for these things.

OUTRAGEOUS!

Actually, fair play to Nick Watson's ridiculous goal on his wrong foot from the third row in the prelim. Probably ahead of Rayner's.

Spargo off to the Roos as a UFA for an end of second round pick.

What can we learn from this with respect to Rayner's value?

He's worth far more than Geelong's current offer to Carlton for Curnow!!
Team enforcer
Goal kicker
Premiership hero

Crowd controller
