Cam thurley looked the goods when he played. imo wasnt given enough game time and they went off him quickly. Kicked a couple of mini bags for a bloke in his first real season. Football SMART.

Smart but would have to add a few tricks to his game if he is going to stay on the list for any real period of time.

Positives: Can take a good mark for his size and can find the ball

Neagtives: Not overly quick and not versatile

Thurley is a great kick for goal and could be in the best 22, he just needs to work on his second efforts and his defensive side. He was one of the culprits when opposition teams were getting goals from a rebound out of Geelong's attacking 50.

He wouldn't be in our best 22 IMO, and while he doesn't have a bag of skills, he does his job exceptionally well. His attitude has improved dramatically this past year, so who knows, maybe he still has some improvement in him.

His VFL form, especially when he went back after being dropped was exceptional. There is definetly a chance for him to push for a regular spot because his skills are so clean.

As posters have said he doesn need to work on his second efforts, but in his first VFL season he wasnt commited to contests and whatnot but he fixed that, so he may be able to fix this problem in his game.

It's great to be able to kick the ball well but it doesn't make a great player in itself.

These two have other areas of their games they must improve on drastically if they are to remain on the list post-2006.

Thurley's defensive efforts have been deplorable in some games and Lonergan has yet to prove that he can stamp his presence on a game like a key position play should.

Not saying they won't improve in these areas, but to say they must be kept at all costs is taking it too far.

not saying that, if they can't break into the team in 06 and show improvement, then by all means trade or delist them, but both have shown from limited opportunities that they should be given more opportunities. Some of our current automatic selections started off their careers in just as unspectacular fashion as these two.

Agreed. If both get half as many chances as Charlie Gardiner has had we'll know for certain whether they're up to it.

he may make it.. but i doubt it as he is one dimensional... good kick but gets caught carrying the ball too often... seems to slow for the fast pace of afl footy...
