Cameron, broken arm and negligence

Not sure what the logic of keeping a tall forward on the ground with one usable arm was while subbing a perfectly fit player, but as a Geelong player I would really be asking questions about the coaching staffs choices, if not consciously at least subconsciously.

I can only assume the Cats doctor thought it was a nasty stinger or knock and not a surgery requiring fracture at the time of assessment.

A bad call in hindsight.

I couldn’t see any deformity, swelling or bruising during the telecast (but nor was I looking for it). Clearly, Jezza was hampered by it.

It’s not a good look for the AFL and he needed to sit out the rest of the match. Easy to say in hindsight though.

Even if we had better medical equipment at the stadiums (ie X-ray & ultrasound), by the tie this can all be organised and images reviewed you’ve probably lost a quarter or so of footy anyhow. So that would have been a long time to make a call on whether to sub Jezza off.

No subs next year, 5 on the bench so hopefully we have the rotations to cover something similar in future.

Had to be fed a goal in 2022 to contribute, didn't get a sniff this year and broke his arm.

He knew he was in trouble, yet chose to stay on, and at the very least robbed the club of a rotation for an extended period of time while he was treated.

Utterly selfish.

Post game footage showed dark purple bruising around the elbow area.

Yep.

This is what the sub rule was designed for - so that you're not disadvantaged if you get a severe/match ending injury to a player.

But Scott saw the injury, and then decided to sub off someone else.

Just bizarre. Or flat out stupid.

Isnt that the issue, that if this were pre-game the doctors and coaches would be all over him and would rule him out without his consent, esp Geelong who love the “late change” pre game.
Yet Mid game they apparently lose their diagnostic powers and decide to let him make his own call to come back on. And actually let him play over a 100% fit player who was subsequently subbed off.

And then have the audacity to blame a sub rule that was put in place precisely for this reason.
  • with the sub rule, they could have made the sub and still be playing 22-22.
  • without the sub rule, they would have been left playing 22-23.
Not to nitpick but Brisbane made the sub at half time and then lost Starcevich shortly after that so were effectively playing a man down.

Yep, would have evened out pretty quickly given Cameron should have been subbed at half time at the latest.
