do we know if any of those had a test ton or a 5fa in their first 9 matches ?

pretty impressive for green at this point in time.

Holder batted WI to a draw against England with a century in his fourth match and Kallis hit one in a Boxing Day test against Warne and McGrath in his first half dozen or so

Well his first innings away from home on a overseas tour

48 batted well disappointing shot to get out on.

Very happy with the way he played just think he is not batting like a number six should.....he is batting well I would just like to see more intent and I believe he would be suited better at 5 with head at 6...

I think the pressure will start to build on him as he waits to score that elusive 100 ...and its hard batting at 6 to do that

Coming along fine. I agree he might be better at 5 than 6 as a batsman but then we start to run into - he should bat higher up the order and bowl more often - and a lot gets put on a young player's shoulders.

I dont really care if he makes tons at 6 but it's more about the soft way he seems to give his wicket away when looking set if he fixes that issue up then and is a regular contributor with middle order/tail i dont think it matters if he makes 100's on a regular basis.

Green starts his Shield innings in the same manner. I have no difficulty at all with his pacing. It is red ball cricket.

He will get tons.

I remember a young all rounder who struggled for a long time to make good runs, he got an extended run in the side and was a very, very innovative bowler before injury meant he didn't bowl a lot in the latter part of his career. He came pretty good in the end though.

Some of you might remember him. Steve Waugh.

Green has played a handful of matches. I'd be more than happy to see him get an extended run. I like very much what I see so far.

Good all rounders are uncommon enough. Great ones are another thing all together. Let's give the bloke a chance to show us which kind, if any, he is.

This could describe Mitch Marsh tbf.

One would think the "catch" stat is probably a reflection of fielding skill.

ie - the more catches you take - likely you were put in spots where catches are taken.

Green appearing to be elite very early means he has found his way into gully/slips

His bowling was never anywhere near what Green is capable of though. Yeah, he had a few tricks different slower balls etc. but he was a pretty stock standard medium pacer.

So basically everybody was rubbish, except Pollock & Green.
Pollock bowled like McGrath & batted like Tim Paine for 100+ test matches and that is about the only piece I have seen that puts him in a good light among all-rounders.

A better response might be 'so what' or why 9 tests ?

Very successful change bowler I recall, no stats ...

Steven Waugh was a very, very effective bowler in both forms of the game before his batting hit its' stride.

I am old, in fact 2 years older than the twins, so I saw his entire career. The guy was a quality all-rounder before he stopped bowling.

If Green turns out 75% the player that S. Waugh was then we're doing well.

A genuine great, much more than a bloody good cricketer that I'll be happy if Cam Green turns out to be.
