I'm not sure why some people are getting on the case that he isn't bowling that much right now. He's in the team as a batsman and is being managed after coming back from stress fractures in his back. He's bowling is a bonus, gives the quicks a short rest and he's managed to tie up an end pretty well so far. This isn't an obsession about allrounders. He's shown enough potential with the bat to earn a national team spot.

I think he's shown enough so far this summer to put him on a plane to South Africa.

Whilst he is showing enough as a bat - there may come a time - like what happens to most - where his batting is not holding up to where it should be. If he then has another string to his bow - he can still add to the team.

I still maintain bowling is his stronger suit and wouldn't be surprised if in 3 or 4 years he is a top 4 bowler in the country. Personally I'd bowl him before Starc gets his second spell.

I'd be very surprised if Green is dropped from the South African touring squad.

A poor showing in Brisbane might make the selectors think twice about his spot in the XI*, but he'll definitely be in the squad IMO.

*Might being the important word. He hasn't locked away that spot at the moment, but he is only three tests into his career. He has picked up a nice half century and top scored in two of six innings. I think they will persist till the end of the South African series and if he hasn't produced a couple more half centuries or a handful of wickets then they'll probably reassess that number six spot. Not sure if there are scheduled tests between South Africa and next summer's Ashes.

Looks better at the crease every test at the moment.

I think his bowling will likely forever fail to reach its full potential. Think he can genuinely push towards being a top 4 bowler in the country but playing as an all-rounder in an Australian team that is never going to lack for quality pace bowling options means he'll likely never quite get there.

At least another 50 tomorrow and a wicket or 3 this test match will be a dream result for his first series against quality (albeit injured) opposition

On his bowling I thought he looked quite good in the first two Tests. In the third he was going more for short bowling which looked very innocuous in terms of wicket taking ability. I think he looks (going purely on eye-test) like a bowler who would be able to take wickets through long sustained spells, but he doesn't seem to have that Shane Watson 'burst' wicket taking ability to smash a partnership with two or three overs which is what our current lineup will be looking for from a pace allrounder.

Getting him in touch with Watson for a bowling training session would be ideal. Watson lowered his pace with injuries but was still very effective. Something for Green to aim for long term sustainability I think.
Paine hasn't done him any favours. Has hardly been used and when Paine did use him in the last test it was bowling leg theory.

Excellent prospect, worth investing in as much is as practical; i.e. persist with him despite the upcoming ups and downs.

His temperament in this series has been exemplary for a young man at the beginning of his Test career.
The batting already shows a clear-headed organisation and maturity.

I'd like to see what he is capable of with the new ball at some point - I'm not suggesting an increased workload, more curious as to see whether his best contribution as a bowler might be with the new ball; word is he can swing it, but we've only seen hints of that in this series so far. Saliva-free cherries probably don't help.
His confidence as a bowler at Test level will improve and he will start to impose himself sooner rather than later.
I was keen to get a look at Pucovski before the current series began, but now I am a big Green believer; give this kid all necessary resources to enable him to become a dominant player at Test level. Would be a huge asset, akin to having someone like Gilchrist.

He's a very promising bowler, that was his main role in the WA team before he hurt his back.

Aside from the positives in his game that we've seen so far, it is a real positive to just get games into Green. Getting him to 10-20 tests as soon as possible will be important. It took Watson until he was 27 to play his fourth test. Green is doing it at 21. Stokes was averaging 27 with the bat and 42 with the ball after 20 tests. Since then he's going at 42 with the bat and 27 with the ball. The all rounder role is a difficult one and it takes time to get right. If Green can play the three tests against South Africa, it'll leave him with seven tests under his belt by 21.

Decent first series with the bat. Will need to improve on that 33 average long term, but pretty confident that will happen. Agree with the post above, needs to have a smoother transition between defence and attack, but for the most part it's been a bit of a grinding series for run scoring. Green's scoring after his half century was probably the most prolonged period of fast scoring all summer, and even that was only for a handful of overs - typically on Australian pitches you'd see an onslaught of that level most test matches, sometimes even a couple of times a test. The batsmen have been kept pretty well under wraps by both teams, even the big scores have been accumulated scores rather than dominance over the bowlers.

Fingers crossed he can break his wicket duck in the last innings here. He hasn't bowled terribly, but maybe just a tad short.

Just looking at his Shield scores it seems he sometimes struggles to turnover the strike so no surprise it's happening at Test level but overall, he's batted quite well and seems to have a very calm temperament that belies his age.

It's a pity the back injuries have compromised his bowling. I'm hoping what we've seen this summer is just the first step towards him eventually trusting his body and taking the shackles off. He needs to run in harder and be more explosive at the crease because if what we're seeing currently is how he intends to go about it, he may as well give it away and become a no.3/4 batsman.

Has the makings on an elite gully fieldsman.

Overall, pretty good. Plenty to work on but a decent start to his test career.

Reckon he’ll have a massive SA series. He’ll be more settled and get to play against a far inferior team on what are basically the same wickets as Aus.

Wouldn’t be worried about his bowling, it’s not like it’s been bad and there is a reason he averages like 21 in the shield. Just came off a massive injury break after remoulding his action and gets like 4 over spells max while backing up arguably the best pace attack in the world. Guarantee you he was being talked about as a future replacement by selectors for one of the current big 3 before he did his back.

Most important thing for him to work out is how to pick off singles and rotate the strike more, if he turns 7 of the 50+ dot balls he’s played almost every innings into singles then he’s averaging 40

This kid should do a Steve Smith and give the bowling away because he is a special special talent with the bat, the bowling on top is only going to lead to injuries.

Yep, and bowling fast with a young 200cm frame plus batting long periods will leave his body held together with tape, much like Shane Watson before he gave the bowling away.

Watson wasn't 200cm.
That's the risk you take to be great.
McGrath had same frame & front on action. Had injuries but also long career
