I genuinely believe this kid could be the best player in the world in 5 years time. He's 21. 21 for *s sake! And he's averaging mid 50's with the bat and 26ish with the ball at 1st class level.
He's coming back from a horrific batch of back injuries (he's finished his last 3 seasons with back stress fractures). This is the very injury that kept Pat Cummins out for the better part of 6 years. James Pattinson and Jason Behrendorff had to get radical invasive surgery to correct their versions of the same injury. Green is literally having to re-learn how to bowl. It. Takes. Time.
He's so clearly in the top 6 batsman in the county that it's not even close. His bowling is indeed far from the finished product, but with time and patience, could be a potent weapon. He was considered a specialist bowler just 18 months ago FFS.
Anyone saying his lack of bowling potency was the reason we lost the Border-Gavaskar, is, quite frankly, an imbecile.
Our top order batsmen left far too many runs on the pitch and two of our four front line bowlers failed to make an impact (plus our bowling tactics overall were just plain awful).
Green and Pucovski are the brightest young prospects we've had in a decade, but it seems if Green isn't late career Jacques Kallis with in his 2 games of Test cricket, he's a waste of space.... This forum hurts my brain sometimes.

Of all the things that are impressive about Green, this might be the most significant. Not only does he have fight, but he has excellent game sense and can change his play to match the situation.
Even if he could have bowled more, there is no saying that he would have been given proper spells. Our skippers seem very reluctant to give our 'all-rounders' proper spells, or at least it seems that way to me.
Pretty concerning he got out as soon as he hit 250. Maybe doesn't have the mental fortitude to get the triple hundred?

Not sure anyone can hit it harder than this kid. When he decided to get going in that 140 odd Marsh cup not long ago...my goodness every ball was hammered.
I'll have to catch it on some Kayo replay. Not watched that match yet.
The first Steve Smith was actually good to watch.
They tried to turn him into a Test opener like they tried with Finch but he was always just a one day opener type of player back then.

hard to argue - he consistently gets past 150 and throws it away
ffs - today was his first ever first class double century and Christ he’s had 7 goes at it. Tell me another 21 year old whose failed 6 times in a row to get to his double century after passing 100
