Green is a 'genuine' all-rounder, not a batting or bowling all-rounder. Andrew Flintoff was a genuine all-rounder who had a celebrated career (perhaps a bit over-rated, truth be told, but he was very good). Flintoff averaged 32.78 with the ball and 31.77 with the bat. Green's sample size is still small, but he averages 27.37 with the ball and 30.58 with the bat. By that comparison, Green's start has been a raging success.

Ben Stokes is a batting all-rounder, and he averages 32.11 with the ball and 36.12 with the bat. What Green already offers across both bowling and batting is comparable to those numbers. Of course, Green does not have 'talismanic' powers, and he has only played eight tests, so it's too early to judge. But there is more than enough there for the selectors to stick with him.

hopefully this time next year, he'll have a test ton under his belt and a 5fa.

Loved seeing Greeny today in full flight.

He's so big, that when he starts clubbing balls into the fence, it's just pure brute force beauty. Reminds me of KP or Andrew Symonds just absolutely wrecking balls, with just their big stature.

As I've said before, he's just so exciting. A mythical "3 tools" cricket player in the making, potentially.

His series bowling stats are pretty damn good.

You could make the argument he’s been the best bowler of the series given he’s been bowling 4th or 5th change with that ER and SR

Was a good argument about his value in the subcontinent on Radio yesterday.

He can definitely be the 2nd seamer in India, but given Starcs batting atm, we might play 3.

Selectors are reportedly considering Lyon/Swepson/Maxwell trio for the upcoming tour with possibly Cummins/Green as the seam attack.

Unlikely maxwell plays ahead of specialist seamer or spinner. Green will be 1st change behind Cummins & either starc or Hazelwood.

If stokes was a front line bowler wouldn't be used in role he has this series pounding ball short. Would be bowling full & looking to take wickets with new ball.

Role dictates record

Huge 50 if he gets it from 3/12

Yep. His 50s to date have been good, but while trying to set a score for a declaration which has its own pressure but is not your typical Test innings.

Whether he capitalises or not, this has shown he can make first innings runs under pressure which was a big question mark over his batting at Test level.

Today was the first time watching him where his form replicated how he looks in the Shield. The foot movement was less rigid from ball 1 and some of the shots he played were just chef's kiss

It's pretty hard to not go all in on the hype at the moment when the ceiling is a Smith/Warne/Ponting generation defining player

Most exciting prospect since Cummins won us a test in SA as an 18yo. Smith kind of snuck up on us.
