Not sure I have seen a more overrated series from an individual, he was good but it was hardly an incredible series.

It’s a no brainer to keep him at 5. He’s not a no7 anyway. Unless you are going to pick a Peake or Connolly he’s an obvious selection for the August tests.

I think they would have been keen to trial a younger guy in the middle order (be that Connolly, Kellaway, McSweeney, anyone under 30) for that Darwin series against Bangladesh because it wouldn’t be ideal to throw them into the deep end in South Africa or India. Surely can’t leave Webster out now until he actually starts struggling at this level and we know they won’t replace Green, so not sure that option becomes viable

It's a bit interesting to me how fragile Green is when at 24 Carlos Braithwaite proceeded to embarass Ben Stokes in the T20 world cup years back. How Mike Hussey was considered a poor alternative to open ahead of Langer's promotion ahead of him. Usman Khawaja was dropped from the national squad at 30, just as he was entering his prime.

It might just be me being a bit contrary - I've been first in the queue saying Cam Green needs to improve, for a period of years rather than just this series - but I'm finding the criticism of him OTT. He's 'mentally weak' when it looks to me like he's just a bit low on confidence and form.

Travis Head can look pretty shit when he's not in form, too.

He's a work in progress, there was nothing wrong with his selection at the beginning of the series, and I take zero ****ing issue with them keeping him in for youth when the rest of the ****ing team is over 34.

Youth is fine if they are progressing but its clear mentally hes going backwards. Hes better off being out of the team for a while and working on his game out of the spotlight. Then bring him back.

We will be turning over plenty of other spots with youth anyway.

He’s averaging close to 30 after almost 40 tests, he’s not a no brainer selection at 5 at all.

Mcsweeney played a few tests and averaged 14, his fc average is 38....

Renshaw is turning 30 in a few months, could be looked at to replace Khawaja.

None are better prospects than Green in the next few years.

We have a spot open at opener and 5 . if ward and Rendhaw keep making runs noway should Green get that spot at the end of the year

Mcsweeney opened the batting against one of the most unplayable bowlers we have seen on these shores in my lifetime.

I am happy to give him a chance at 5 and see if he actually has what it takes.

They don’t struggle at Shield cricket

Kellaway was sixth leading runscorer last year and Connolly averages over 50 (from a small sample size)

I want to drop Green so he can go and find form, his shield average is from years ago we will see if he instantly goes back to performing that well.

In terms of who replaces him i am okay with multiple options including dropping Head back to 5, Renshaw open and Green back to shield.

He simply does not warrant a test number 5 spot.

Green needs to go back to shield and work on his mentality of continually getting himself out. That is obvious.
