Although Howat did show some good form, it was only 5 games. I think the club's decision to keep him on the rookie list was needed to help expand our list to its maximum potential. It allowed us to get Kingsley basically.

With guys like Newman, Coughlan and Thursfield in doubt for the start of the season, Howat may get his chance to develop his game further, and virtually promote himself for season 2008.

Not elevating Howat allowed us 1 extra pick in the Draft/PSD. I know lots of you may have sacrificed Kingsley but if Terry had wanted to keep a pick for the PSD we would have had to sacrifice 1 of Riewoldt, Edwards, Connors, Peterson or Collins. Which one should it be?

Howat will get his chance. He's not going anywhere.

its not as if he is gonna improve playing the first half of the year for coburg

he should've been elevated meaning we didnt get a psd pick and then had one more rookie pick for a ruckman

but hey its richmond

Thank the Lord your not running the football club, thats all i'm saying.

And quit being a moaning, whinging twat, it's getting old....

i think he was more than serviceable when he got his chance, looked a genuine player... I dont question the clubs plans and philosophies on team management, I was stoked to get plough and i'll back him all the way, but the only concern i have with this decision is that Cam doesnt let this get him too down. Hope he fires up even more to prove how wrong the club were for not giving him a gig effective immediately..

If he gets 'down' about it, then we know we don't have a player on our hands.
If he fires up and it makes him work harder, then everyone's a winner.

I think we can read into his outstanding form on the training track that he's taken it as a challenge. I believe he's been rated in the top few for the p[oints system alll the way through.

couldn't agree more. If you are in the best 22 and have a future then you should be on the list.

Howat is overrated.

He isn't in the best 22.

He is small, has not muscle and only got touches against rubbish clubs when the season was already over.

I doubt very much that he would feel down about it. Wallace and co would of talked to him about the fact he is apart of the future there for he will get many chances at the top level. Rookie or not he will get ago.

Tell me im wrong?

He is 23 years of age or so as well - not a young player.

Howat found the ball a couple times against Essendon and Carlton last season. I'd not being sucking him off quite yet.

Let the lad batter the door down in the Burgers next year before we consiter evlvating him.

You are wrong. Cam has the best foot skills at the club. He's quick and keeps going and going. He's only played a handful of games. As if 23 isn't young. You live in some sort of dream world. 25-27 is a players core years. He's definitely worthy of having a spot on the list. Thats not to say hes a walk up start, but he'd definitely push for selection in the best 22.

Why have a solid, young player on the rookie list who is proven?

You're giving Kent a bit of deep throat action recently though mate. Let's wait and see what he does next year before we bend over.

youre wrong..

ok he's not a gamebreaker but not every player on the list has to be one. He got the ball more than a couple of times against more than just Carlton and Essnedon. It was the way he did it. Racks up possessions easily and uses the ball intelligently. No-ones calling him a champion but he looked a ready made footballer. 22-23 is over the hill hey?

i think the club did exactly the right thing! it means we basically get a list player on the rookie list, and we get to pay him likewise. chances are, atleast one player will go onto the long term injury list, and he will be promoted if he is still improving at the same rate - why promote him?? he has been effective but not mind blowing, we basically get him for free and is a little ace up our sleeve!

pfht!! better skills than brown and deledio and polo and meyer and tambling and raines??? no way, he has been a good player - but a top 10 or top 15 - certainly not - he is on our rookie list, we can basically promote him whenever we NEED to, so why do it now and rob ourselves of another player?? he basically IS on our list!

why on earth do we always talk about good honest players?? as if they Hird skills or something! its laughable

As I said, "FOOT SKILLS", so dont generalize. He does has better foot skills then Deledio, Polo, etc etc. Brown might pip him though.

i strongly doubt he has better foot skills than those blokes - i think its a case of lower pick, lower expectations , clouding your judgement in comparing their skills. i saw him play all his matches last season for the seniors, and i remember him being a solid kick, who can HIT targets - not an exceptational kick who can MAKE targets. those other boys are capable of that IMO.

dont get me wrong, i dont think his skills are poor, but to say he isour most skilled kicker is a little rich - especially as he IS only on our rookie list, like it or not

Way too early to say Howat has the best foot skills in our squad. If he was that good he would've been promoted ahead of Humm this year, and would have been on the list right now in place of one of our national draftees. I think he'll make the squad this year and get promoted. Could be a solid 100 gamer, 15 possession per match player for us but not much more. That said, I enjoy watching him and hope he makes a big impact.

******** OFF

settle down big boy

id take howat over hyde anyday, maybe not the same pace but howat makes up for it when he runs in straight lines and is a very good kick

its dissapointing that a blokes gotta go down for cam to get a go but it will eventually happen so i reckon him and king will be fighting it out for the spot early at coburg which should be good
