Would love Lingy at the Hawks as a coach. Has a great football brain and the calls he makes are spot on. He was a player with good football smarts too (sort of like Hodge) and relied on his knowledge of other players and reading the flow of the game to be successful rather then relying on physical aspects.

I think Lingy would thrive in a coaching environment such as Hawthorn, Collingwood and even Geelong. All three clubs seem to build decent coaches.

Too late.....hate for Hawthorn....receding Just having a read of your board...withdrawals from not being involved in GF build up. Lingy is quite good, clearly has a lot of respect for the Hawks, and why not. And he respects the game in general, unlike some of his colleagues. Harley I agree has been a big disappointment.

Both Ling and Richo have really improved their commentary this year, both have managed to shed their team bias and call the game for what it is. Seems like they also have the respect from the players too which really helps with good interviews.

I couldn't help wondering when he saw Mitch running around almost at will if he didn't get itchy feet and hands to go tag him !!

I cant help but like Lingy, a great character, with a head only a mother could love... and it was hard even for her.

Comes across as a football man first and a Geelong man second. Is able to recognise good players, good teams and good play irrespective of guernseys. Has a developing insight on how to play.be an asset to wherever he coaches.

Lingy is quality, I hated him in the 08' GF, but only because of the job he was doing to Mitchell. He is a very good commentator to listen to. Definitely worth a look if he is keen to coach. Ch7 need more like him and Richo and less like BT and Harley. Can not stand either of them. BT is cringe worthy. bring Rexy back before BT gets another gig.

Could not stand Harley as a player. The sneaky way he pushed players over after a mark, always got up my skin.
But, and I will probably get shot down for this, I saw him a couple of years ago, stay back after his AFL media commitment and help out at the local Auskick. He was absolutely 1st class . He was completely engaged with all the kids and it was great to see someone so happy and willing to help out.

I've seen other higher profile footballers turn up and not give a stuff. They're demeanor so poor, you thought to yourself, why turn up?

Even though some of this comments grate at me, after that day I dare not say a bad word about him.

Enjoy listening to Lingy on the TV. His knowledge on players, game styles and the game itself is outstanding and stands out like dogs balls against some of his other C7 mates.

Would love him to get down to Hawthorn in some capacity.

I'm a fan of Ling's TV work too. God knows he's a million miles ahead of that flog Tom Harley who can barely contain his simmering hatred toward us. Why they get him to commentate Hawks games is beyond me.
