Why is everyone getting stuck on the amount of goals Mooney kicked? That's only one part of the equation. Last year Mooney kicked 67 goals, but set up 24. Franklin may have kicked 73, but he only set up 12, and Lucas kicked 61 and set up 18, so Mooney had a hand in more goals than both Franklin and Lucas did. Never mind the fact that Franklin conceded 3 times as many free kicks as he earnt, and conceded 16 more free kicks than Mooney did.

Last year Mooney kicked 4 goals on Glass and 3 on Rutten, who most people consider as two of the best full backs in the league, so is it really a surprise he only kicked 1 on Scarlett on Saturday night, considering his form this year is not as good as it was last year and Scarlett is on par with Rutten and Glass?

The AA team is chosen by the H&A season, so really Money had 55 goals, i think franklin had 70 and Lucas had 61. Im not sure on goal assist as i cant find those stats but im guessing mooney and franklin would have less than the figures you used. So really Mooney didn't have a hand in more goals during the H&A season. Also don't give me the argument that Mooney was more important to Geelog than Lucas was to Essendon or Franklin was to Hawks, all 3 played a vital role in their teams.

Good post. IMO Lucas was diddled aswell. Every year there are one or two premiership players who look better than they are due to the cattle around them.... That was big Cam last year....

That's stupid. By that logic Brenton Sanderson was a hack because he couldn't get a game at Collingwood or Adelaide early in his career.

I agree they are all important to each team's forward line but you are overstating Franklin's goals at the end of round 22. He had 63 not 70.

The problem is, Mooney could be like Franklin and it wouldn't make any difference; he still wouldn't kick bags of goals purely because of how the Cats play. Johnson for instance is a genius and could probably pass to him all day and he would do reasonably good, however the gameplan doesn't allow that. The players pass around alot (sometimes too much, Hawkins!) and as a result the goal tally is spread across five or six players.

It's true, being in a superior team has it's advantages. Statistically he was as good or better than Lucas, Buddy and Roo depending on which way you want to look at the statistics.

Based on what?? Lucas had 50 more kicks for the season (and 28 more possesions overall) despite playing 3 less games (finals) and has a marginally better goals per game average. This from a well documented mediocre midfield delivering the ball to him.

Mooney is a good player but because he is the no.1 target in a side with the best delivery in the AFL, he therefore appears much better than he actually is.

His form this year is no coincidence. Whilst Geelong have been winning, they havnt been nearly as dominant, Therefore delivery to Mooney hasn't been as good, therefore Mooney himself hasn't been as good.

He's a good player to have in your forward line but the way he is being compared to the best in the AFL and his selection in the All Australian side last year is really over-doing it.

Remember when West Coast had Cousins, Kerr and Judd and were winning nearly every game? Remember how Quintin Lynch got 65 goals? and now, he struggles to get 2 or 3 in a game.

Cameron Mooney is better than Quintin Lynch, but jeez, put him at West Coast and you won't see him in the All Australian side.

9/10 fans will agree with that.

Where else would he play? with Lucas and Lloyd taking up the 2 key post up foward and with one of gumby, neagle or daniher being the 3rd tall there is no room for him and therefore he would be useless unless we were ____ed over with injuries (like we are now).
