Went to a breakfast this morning where he was the guest speaker and was very impressed by his intelligence, his manner and his motivations. It was one of the best and most inspiring speeches I've heard. I made the comment on leaving that it was a wonder Freo hadn't achieved more with him at the helm, but on reflection it was a bit harsh - you guys really have come along in leaps and bounds during his time there, especially when you consider what he took over at the end of 2001.

Anyway, just thought I'd drop in with a positive message for once:thumbsu:

I think that you guys will miss him when he moves back over to victoria. He's done a great job for you guys over the last 7 years.

Yes, the rablle in 2001 of been wooden spooners and $8mil plus in debt to where we are now is great credit to him.

Watch a vic club snap him up next year where he will do the same :thumbsu:

He has definitely lead from the front, and achieved a lot for the club. Blotted his copy book on a couple of things, but that is par for the course. At least he had the courage to make the decisions and stand by them.

Yeah Schwab is a really articulate and business savvy guy.

What he achieved with the club off-field was pretty awesome and hopefully his successor will keep us in the black.

I think his impact has been heavily overrated. He didn't bring 40k+ members in, that just needed us not to be a complete joke on the field. Nothing to do with business savvy or anything like that - all it required was a coach that wasn't a total ****** and could win a few games.
Given that, I reckon the drovers dog could have done the job with the same impact, because once you've got members, the sponsors follow.

And speaking of organisation, who are the muppets that organise the pre-game entertainment nowadays? The rock and anchor has turned into a joke, the club song always gets cut short, and the dude that climbs up the rock never seems to know what's going on.

AFL directive that they have to be off the ground by 20 minutes before bounce-down this year. I've got there just before bounce-down both games, so I haven't seen it. Maybe they are still trying to adjust to the new conditions... ;)

Right on the money ROB. The demand was always there. What schwab did was to created the " expectation with his big signings each preseason bar 2003' of big and better things to come in each new season.

Compared to Brian cook who also took over two basket cases- Slime(late 80's) and Geeeelong( late 90's) both in debt to the turne of $7-8M respectively
turned them around off the field and on the field.

cook's been involved in 3 premierships at two clubs. Our cam has been involved with three clubs(got the arse twice) for no premierships.

Sometimes I wish that Schwab and co hadn't come along. Then maybe this poor club might never have made it out of that predicament and we wouldn't have to put up with idiot 'supporters' all the time.

I know what you're saying, but the club may have folded instead.

In a more cut-throat environment than the AFL (which seems intent on propping up struggling teams indefinitely) the club may well have folded at the end of 2001. Even though Schwab and Connolly didn't deliver a premiership, they turned Freo into a marketing powerhouse which is the envy of 'successful' teams like Port Adelaide and even Sydney.

Thats it...

Plus lets face a real fact that the media and Fremantle board members have really overlooked. At least 35% of our Members are people who really love football and just want to watch a game of AFL. So basically what I'm saying is things like the increasing two town rivalry has had more to do with the clubs financial position than Cameron Schwab... As more and more people just want to be a part of it and go see a game. Also attending football games has become "fashionable" in this town in the last 6 or so years. So once again the lack of seats at an Eagles game leads people to ours.

The Eagles corporate section was filled by the time he came in so naturally as the city grew financially the Fremantle corporate side filled without any golden touch of his

Our membership drive ads and Dockers presence in various media sources (apart from the Justin Longmuir goal one) have been feeble and cheap at best.

He forced upon us a Coach purely designed for TV interviews as a pose to the best possible option at the time (however Connolly didn't turn out all too bad)

The match day entertainment is outdated and neglected. I would rather watch an Eagle fly in to the middle than some fat guy in a jumpsuit lift a foam anchor up... Plus maybe a little uplifting music here and there ala NBL?

Instead of patience he (and people like rick hart) have sheepishly tried to buy a premiership with complete disregard for the future of the club. They seemed to have forgotten that the good old days where teams like Carlton could buy a premiership were stamped out with rules and regulations. I firmly believe it was sheer arrogance that lead to the outbidding for Tarrant with West Coast. Ha basically i'm saying he dipped his fingers in football matters rather than money which was what his job is.

Call me brash whatever you want but i will find it hard to truly dispute that. Oh and no one start with the oh your a negative fan we dont need you. Because i love the team/the jersey/the crowd/the club. As far as im concerned...

PETER BELL, PAUL HASLEBY and MATTHEW PAVLICH have done far more to bring this club out of the doldrums than him...

Well said. This twat didn't bring 40k members in ... the game's popularity along with the scum's full membership base did. For proof, notice how at our home derbies half the crowds is wearing Eagles colours despite our season tickets supposedly being close to full.

I wonder if he'll pay the club back for the Boston holiday he took through a huge chunk of last season to "further himself" for his job prospects after the inevitable departure took place.

As far as the pre-game entertainment, I suggest we scrap all the garbage you mention and replace it with a rendition of I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles ala West Ham United.
