I thought I'd post this subject because I think Cameron Wood is currently Brisbane's second best ruckman. Last night was a great test for Wood and he stood up, he grabbed 16 hit-outs (I reall prefer his tap work compared to Leuey's, but that will change with experience) and he grabbed 9 touches just like Leuenberger. This mightn't sound like a great deal, but to do this against the likes of Ottens and Blake, who are in the top 3 ruck combos in AFL, is sensational.

I really hope Wood re-signs with Brisbane, as I am very sure he will be playing a majority of next season, especially if McDonald is delisted as I expect. Next year could be his breakthrough season and I could see him becoming a regular ruck partner to go with Charmo.

That's all I wanted to say besides the fact that this thread should just be about what Wood is capable of and some praise, try not to get into the stupid trade talk, please.

Thanks. :)

Wood was pretty good last night.

It still baffles me though how well Leuenberger has gone in his first year.

I constantly find myself shaking my head in awe and saying "this kid is going to be a phenomenon."
Yep, that is true. At first I didn't like my comparision between Wood's and Leuenberger's ruck skills, because there are 2 pre-seasons of fitness/work between the two of them.

Both will great ruckmen for the Lions, no doubt.

I'm fairly sure he's on contract to the end of next year.

I have been saying that Wood has been OK for a while now. I am not sure what is expected of a 20 year old string bean tap ruck. From day one I was all for Leuenberger being selected if he came our way but that was not because I thought that any other rucks we had were poor. I just believe in selecting the best available. I watched Wood very carefully in the ressies over the last few games he had, prior to his return to the seniors, and he had been a bloody good player for us. I have also watched him very carefully in the last 2 games of this season and I will shout it from the rooftops.......... if we are able to offer him a contract that fits we would be insane to let him go at this point in time. He can play. He has been good these last two weeks. I have read on here and on other sites that he has not. Well I must be watching the game a bit different. Last night I know that we were beaten in the stoppages but around the ground both Luey and Cam were certainly no worse than anyone else. Cam was OK! He worked hard to get into position and his delivery was also good. He has a safe pair of hands and is a good kick. He was willing to drop back and defend when required. With a fit Charmo and young backups like Cam and Luey we will be a force to be reckoned with. Keep them all if possible.

Honestly if any of you were one of Charmo, Wood or Leuy would you want to stay and play perhaps 3rd fiddle when you could get the #1 gig elsewhere and a truck load of money?

When has a Brisbane ruckman ever played every game of a season?

My guess. Never

This is an old chestnut of mine.......but I'll say it again.......

YOU CAN NEVER HAVE TOO MANY GOOD RUCKMEN

3 is an absolute minimum but I prefer 4 on the list.

Can't see McDonald being being "delisted' as such as suggested by Sherminator...surely he'd have some currency as a trade. Anyway, if he's let go under whatever circumstances, I'd like to see us get another ruck via the Draft or PSD.

Unless you are Collingwood.
St Kilda under Grant Thomas.
Carlton.

I agree, who knows what the future holds.

People of the ilk of Buckley, Nathan G Brown etc have possibly thought the same and received the suggested truck load, not only of cash but also the matching amount of “flack” re their personal choice.

Horses for courses, the pot of gold at the end of another clubs rainbow is sometimes only a pot of gold, just ask M.Voss, J.Brown, S.Black, L. Power to name a few.

Thankfully, a truck load of money can no longer buy premierships, I'll take my flack and answer what you ask as if I was one of the above mentioned and in my opinion i'd stay.... for me the hypothetical truck load would only purchase the soul of a materialistic individual but that's just me.

Beau is contracted for next year (and I think the year after) and so can't be delisted unless we were to pay out his salary.

Pretty sure from reports at the end of last year that this year was the first of a two year deal. That'd put him out of contract at the end of next year.

he has been playing well in the magoos.Getting lots of full game experience.
I hope he is not to disalusioned with playing magoos.

I also hope he doesn't go to Collingwood.I also hope Chris Scott doesn't join his brother at the Pies. shudders.

"The Western Bulldogs, Carlton, St Kilda, Melbourne, Richmond and Collingwood are all in the market for ruckmen in a year that isn't offering many opportunities to recruit one through the draft."
I think the article lost nearly all credibility at that point.

i really hope we manage to keep Woody:

* Beau has got not much left in him and certainly wont by the time we are in the top 4

*when have we EVER had all our rucks fit at the same time?

*a strong ruck division has been Brisbanes trademark for as long as i can remember
