From my perspective, Jenkins was only player that seemed to be actively performance managed out the door.

All of the others seemed like decisions purely made on the basis of list management
There we're rumours that neither Betts or Jacobs were particularly happy in 2019 but their performances in 2020 validated the club's decision to let them go. I doubt those two were leaking info though. Jenkins seems like the obvious leaker given he threw a massive tanty when he got dropped.

If CM get The Age, McClure and Wilson etc to court we may actually find out who their sources were. Though I'd expect if it goes that far it'll be settled out of court

All points you bring up are relevant and that's a good thoughtful write up. Yes the trade period occurred at a bad time. But my point is still valid and not a conspiracy theory. It's not the fact players were traded and delisted without a coaches input its the specific players who were traded and delisted that many heavily critiqued our club for letting go. I believe alot of these were specifically targeted as instigators to our poor player culture. Pyke himself probably played a huge part in recognizing these players. It's no surprise our player culture seems alot better. It's either a massive coincidence the playing group is united again or the bad seeds were weeded out.

Hmmm, my recollection was not many on here heavily critiqued the club for letting the players let go.

Jenkins, Betts, CEY, Keith, Thor etc.

Only contentious part was what we got in return for Keith and Thor.

Pretty much everyone was onbaord for a well overdue cleanout, I reckon more people were upset it didnt go further rather than lamenting those out the door.

You blokes wanna get a room and knock each other out that's fine by me but going over and over the same sh*te is quite boring for other members.
Lol, you're in a thread about our camp that happened 3 years ago, surprise surprise the same sh*t is getting a going over.

At least we're not been paid for it, unlike Caro and Manure.

I meant the experts in the media. And Rowe numerous times smashed the club for getting rid of several players. Yes I know it's Rowe and his opinion is borderline lost to reality. It's just a point.

Gotcha, yes totally agree the talking heads of the AFL media were all "OMG, look at all the players AFC are getting rid of", as it has been proven many times most of these people are clueless and analyse issues superficially (if at all).

I have even told by someone on the camp the worst thing that happened was a truth telling session.

Destroyed team chemistry and oir subsequent seasons. But no players were psychologically harmed.

Most still in the AFL system.

It was an odd camp, staring competitions, the short bus ride with Richmond song. And yes players did have to give up their phones. Which is not unlike many school children going on a school camp.

But Caro.and McClure put.plenty of mustard on it. And I doubt there will.ever.be another negative story about the camp again....

The media used the rumour mill to try and force the club into comment. It's the old tactic. Rucci was the king of comment or I'm running this story.

I just can't believe dumbass Marshall wanted to send in safework SA. Where's his apology to the club.

Also the club should forever refuse to talk to the media about the camp. The only version of the story that will fly is a fake version otherwise the club will get crucified as lying.

It's not worth the hassle. Let players lie about it for their memoirs if they have to.

Couldn't get a much more irrelevant "skill" for his current position. And no just because he was an elite player doesn't automatically make him a drafting guru/talent id specialist/psychologist etc

Who give two hoots how good Roo was as a player in his current role, it means diddlysquat. Would much prefer he has the skill to identify the right person for the position - which clearly he has no idea, great player though
I would probably suggest that the most elite players, like Roo, are generally (not in all cases) probably the worst possible coaches/identifiers of talent etc.

As I’ve said previously, Roo is as dumb as dog sh*t. Where he is now has got a lot to do with his partnership with Peter Hurley and supporters treating him like a Demi-god. I certainly don’t ever treat anyone as a Demi-god.

Didn’t CM say they didn’t play the song on the bus?

The reason some rumours persist is because of some soft players who were upset. They are no longer at the club. We tested our list and some failed. Doesn't make the camp bad. If anything players didn't like being exposed for the mentally weak individuals we knew they were based on their poor finals performances and a culture of mediocrity in our playing group.

What really flaws me is this isn't brought up by the media. No one in the media questioned players for being upset at a resilience camp. instead the narrative was how dare a club upset players. Even though most players thought it was great.

On VOG-L09 using BigFooty.com mobile app
I wouldn't conclude most players thought it was great. From all available info that I've read, I think the overall feel was that some felt it to be a worthwhile experience, whereas others felt indifferent to its overall value. This of course, is a completely different narrative to the one McNure and Caro were concocting up in their fairy land news of "my source said this", when there are no evidence of any player actually saying "I was traumatised in that camp".

The fact that some of the rumours involved players hearing the Richmond song repeatedly, should make you question the validity of it all. Think about it, if players were indeed traumatised from hearing an opposition theme song, then questions need to be asked whether they're tough enough to still play a game of footy ever again...?

Well we’ve just had feenix say a club person told them a different story to what CM said on the weekend.
So if they can’t get their own stories straight what hope has everyone else got?

If I were CM, I wouldn't be accepting any settlement where the retraction is given any less time, space or prominence than the articles putting the boot into them. Getting a payment for the damage already done to their reputation only goes halfway - without the very significant public retractions they won't go near restoring their reputation going forward. I would be demanding the same number of articles in the same locations and similar size in terms of word count / column inches.
Honestly, if I were CM and if indeed McNure and Caro were telling a pack of significant lies, I'd sue their asses until they end up in jail OR they make a public apology and retract all the false claims.

I'm actually bemused why it has taken CM so long to come out and file a legal action against these 2 journos. Perhaps the recent McNure article a couple of months ago had fired them up and thought "right, enough is enough McClure/Wilson!"?

I think you're missing the point - someone being traumatised by hearing an opposition theme song, shouldn't probably play a game of footy.

The mere mention of it in any of the articles is plain stupid, on the writer's part.

No you’re missing the point.
You’re saying the media have lied when it’s pretty clear we’ve done the same thing.

Again, listening to another team's theme song is irrelevant. It should not be involved in any discussions talking about "emotional trauma" on any camp. Who cares when or where our players listened to the Richmond theme song on what preseason date? This is just a rubbish claim from the outset.

To be fair, Feenix quoted Shuttleworth and the preseason. That's nothing to do with the camp. They don't actually contradict each other.

Dude - CM were talking about the camp.

Feenix mentioned Shuttleworth, the media manager, talking about preseason training.

They're literally different things. CM would have no idea what was happening during training sessions in preseason.

Must be remembered that McClure is a wee baby. He hasn't had life experience, and got his job through his dad, not through the grind. Hasn't earned his stripes.

He's not a Four Corners reporter. Hell, he would struggle reporting on the best scones at the royal show.

He got a bit carried away, and now he'll get his comeuppance. Big life lesson, and he'll be a better journalist for it.

All jokes aside, he really is unprofessional and lacks experience and training IMO.

Ive been shocked and somewhat surprised by his personal vendetta v the AFC.
