Do you seriously think he knew it was a 2nd gamer. I just saw it again in fast motion. He was at top pace trying to make the contest, realised very late he couldnt, then braced himself probably in knowledge that he would be giving away a free kick, maybe a 50, which is all it deserved.
Had it been a short man he might have been able to get in a spoil.

Braced himself? You brace yourself when a hit is coming, not when you are dishing it out. He turned sideways, jumped & aimed his forearm/elbow square into Kreuzer's lower back. That sort of impact can cause major injury, either to the back itself, or the kidneys. His only intention was to hurt Kreuzer & regardless of what we were taught when playing football as kids, the AFL rules are clear when it comes to this sort of incident. The AFL is trying to minimise avoidable, serious injuries.

2 weeks only, thats what i believe. it was a COWARD act and deserved much more, and like Bluebear said id like him to do that to a much bigger player, would of copped one back himself, disgraceful. Only good to pick on a first year player, AS WEAK AS THEY COME!

You obviously haven't seen much of him, more guts than any squib playing for Carlton.

More guts?
This is about Brown mate.........the Stewie Dew tribute thread is on the other board.:thumbsu:

Maybe this will be a wake up call for Brown ..the bloke is obviously a few roo short in the top paddock..but just maybe it will get through to him that sniping unsuspecting players is a no no .

His old man was a backward redneck who liked to throw his weight around when he believed he had the upper hand ..so i guess his son is no different.

Yeh he deserved the 2 weeks, Though your all saying it was straight in the back. If you look at the replys it more side contact.
Mind you i feel that if he did it to say Fev or Waite he would of got off, Though if he did it Waite im pretty sure Brown wouldnt have a head. :D

What does that family have against Carlton?

Just saw another replay on Fox, and they showed it fron a side-on angle. You can clearly see that Brown's eyes were only on the man well before he even left the ground. When Kreuzer was on the ground his eyes were on him, when he was in the air his eyes were still on him. Pre-meditated.

I hadn't had a good look at the incident (as I was standing on at the 50m line at the opposite end of the ground, and the incident occured while the two were basically facing in my general direction) until last night on ABC.

There is no doubt in my mind that it was a late charge, but it didn't look as though there was any indended maliciousness. This was probably the difference between two weeks and five.

Anyway, if it is a confirmed two weeks, I don't think the Hawks will have to worry too much. Almost certainties to make the NAB Cup Grand Final.

I'm starting to think that everything you say is wrong...

I apoligise, but honestly.

Why bother mate?

You clearly have very little knowledge about football.

I know you like the game, but your name says it all.

His 'indended' maliciousness, if 'indended' is in fact a word, was clear for all to see.

Much obliged...:thumbsu:

i just seen the replay for the first time(saw the incident from the 2nd level matchday) and geez!! it looked allot worse on the replay, the b@stard should of got atleast 4 weeks.

Whoa, you attack someone's knowledge about football based on 3 things:

1. His username.
2. His spelling of a single word (if typos were a prerequisite, none of us can take the high moral ground.
3. An opinion on a player's intent. Given we are not Campbell Brown, we can only speculate as to his intent based on how it looked to us. It didn't look that way to him and that is his opinion and he is entitled to it.

I would suggest you have done a Campbell Brown and taken your own eyes off the ball in this case.

Cheers :thumbsu:

harden the **** up srsly. If Brown had of hit Fev or Gehrig he would have bounced off them as they are stronger and physically more mature.

If you really think Brown doesn’t put his body on the line every week and is not courageous then you need to watch a few other teams except Carlton every now and then.

Brown got what he deserved and it will most likely not be the last time he gets week for going the man and not the ball.

I know the rules have changed the game but players like Brown have to change and adapt or be left behind with tarnished reputations, not that his is much chop at the moment anyway.

Funny thing was........a few minutes later Fev bumped Brown (legally I might add) just after he kicked......knocked the stuffing out of him.

Brown got dragged.......came back on 5 mins later.......in the forward line..........someone looking after him eh..........don't want to send him back down to Fev?

Maybe we should hide some of our players so they don't get hurt as well.

Are you for real? Brown's only mistake was not pretending to go for the ball - had he put a hand in the air and pretended to make a spoil he would have got off fine. It was the same as any other late hit on a player that is rewarded with a 50m penalty. No malice intended, just making the player earn it.

Deserved a week for taking his eyes off the ball but nothing more. Got 2 because of his previous record.

AFL is going soft, and it is because of fans like you whinging about petty things like this. If Brown had hit him hard, he'd be in hospital -fact is though that he didn't.

Like it or not, Carlton would love to have Campbell Brown lining up in their backline - and Brown would happily take on Fev - Brown is as tough and courageous as any other player in the comp.

It was a gutless charge on a kid who he knew was defenceless in the marking contest.
we don't need pea and poo newbs coming in here sprouting garbage ...now run along .

Oh and Fev would wipe the floor with Brown.

Just like when:

Fev sat Brown on his ass .. and Campbell refused to look at Fev afterwards.

Gold :)

I'll say this:

My respect for Cameron Cloke has gone up a notch or 2 after he was the first one to charge in at Brown straight after the incident.

Truley shows that he wears his heart on his sleeve, and is protecting the youth.

Well done Cam.

Knocked the stuffing out of him? lol, he got back up straight away...

Fev is a dumbshit and probably would have tried to knock Brown out. A big man no doubt being 16 kg and 14 cm taller than Brown.

I would have moved him as well.

Dawson took care of Fevola anyway :thumbsu:

was great to see Grigg get into it as well!!!

I know it's your board an' all, but some of these posts are completely over the top.

He wasn't at the contest, and with lack of height couldn't spoil. The best he could do was apply physical pressure. He took off as/before Kruezer touched the ball. He turned, and tucked his arm IN (not out as some have suggested), hitting Kruezer pretty much in the side, a little in the back.

There's one bit of footage, (from the near wing?) that shows Kreuzer turning as he took the mark, to protect the ball (and exposing his back to Brown). If he didn't turn, Brown would have hit him side-on. It's what all players are taught to do (protect the ball with their body).

Free kick, definitely...if the umpire paid the mark (which he must have), then 50m. Report? perhaps (but then again it probably happens every couple of games).

Given the name, I expected something much worse (3-4 weeks). Thought it was maybe worth 1, but more likely a reprimand. Not particularly suprised he ended up the outer region of what would be considered 'reasonable' penalty.

What suprised me is no action against Cloke, Fevola and Grigg? Didn't the AFL just recently have a press release on stopping melees by punishing 3rd man in?

The other suprise was the lack of reaction, both by the crowd and Kreuzer's team-mates. There was virtually none, until the umpire pulled out the book. So a late-hit was ok, but a late-hit where the umpire reports means we go in and remonstrate?

I'd put it down to poor umpiring all-round, and a split-second decision (contact or pull-out) where Brown didn't really have any option. So his fault is going 'too hard' or a decision to protect himself, (brace for impact)...and for that he misses two weeks?

Now you've finished typing you can open your other eye ;). It wasn't that bad or that late, but the intent to spoil was never there.....you can't claim the too small to spoil, on the grounds of "if my aunt had balls she'd be my uncle" argument. His intent was to charge the player......having said that as a coach I would be unhappy if he didn't provide some physical contest, but it was dumb and it was out and out charging.

100% correct Gilly :thumbsu::thumbsu:

there was no intent to spoil. at least make it look like he wanted to spoil the mark but take out the player!!

Which is illegal. Making him earn it? He'd already bloody earned it, the mark was taken. His eyes were on Kreuzer the whole time, even when the ball was in the air still, and never left him. Never ANY intention to even try to go for the ball. His goal was to knock him down, and no doubt he fully expected to get pinged for a 50, but again he could brag to his teammates again about how tough he is. Problem was that he missed and went straight into his back.

Deserved a week for taking his eyes off the ball but nothing more. Got 2 because of his previous record.

Yeah, God forbid the heads and backs of players should be protected. It's not as though there's the chance of serious injury or anything. So you think he would've only deserved a few weeks if he put the kid in hospital? You'd be happy to slap him on the wrist if we had another Tom Lonergan situation? The AFL has made it clear that the heads and lower backs of players are off-limits, and with bloody good reason. Brown knew this, but rushed in anyway.

Like it or not, Carlton would love to have Campbell Brown lining up in their backline - and Brown would happily take on Fev - Brown is as tough and courageous as any other player in the comp.
Absolutely we'd have in our backline, he's a bloody good player. Doesn't change the fact that he did something incredibly stupid, callous and rightfully got punished for it. You mention Fev though, I can't imagine the shitstorm that would've started from hawks supporters if he'd have done the same thing to one of your young'uns.
