Rose and his team have worked their butts off to get the off field into order, the team has only lost one match, yet we have so called supporters out there that won't buy a membership. Don't tell me they can't afford it. They are still turning up to games and paying the entrance fee. So dissapointing to be down on membership numbers from last year. Rose says he is embarrassed by this, to be last on the membership list in the AFL.

If you look at the West Coast game there was over 30,000 there and probably about 1000 West Coast supporters. Brisbane game nearly 40,000 at the G, maybe 5000 Lions supporters.

Come on guys Monday is the cutoff to buy a membership.

To be honest, it is difficult to believe that there is any reason for the drop-off in members other than economic reasons. I recall a story recently on research conducted by the bulldogs that confirmed that this is the main cause. Cam Rose however obviously believes there enough supporters who don't fall into this category for him to have another crack.

I pay what is roughly $14 a month for my membership (the basic 11 home game package).

That is less than 50 cents a day.

I understand that things are incredibly tight for some families at the moment - but surely a 45 cent a day sacrifice for this great club is in the realms of possibilty for most???:confused:

No doubt many families out there are struggling with Interest rates, Petrol prices, food prices going up etc. Its really those that still pay the admission price each week but won't committ.

Spoken like people who dont have ever increasing mortgage payments and kids to support.

Tightening your belt isnt one thing, its cutting back across a whole range of things - eating out, going out, that new item or piece of clothing, choosing the home brand margerine... the list goes on and on. And unfortunately it includes footy memberships during a year where we will probably play at least two finals - which Ill be watching on TV :mad::mad:

I'm always curious when I go to the footy and see bulldog fans lining up to buy tickets to the game at around $18 a pop. Why wouldn't you buy a season's ticket?

3. I have pitched to the missus that by going to the 4 games this year that I have friends who barrack for the opposition, that its doubling up as a social occasion. Saints, Tigers, Pies, and will also be going to the Blues game.

Does anyone know the figures for non-members who are turning up every week?

Fair enough. I just thought that if you ended up going to about 6 games, that it would have been just about the same price as buying a membership and paying it over 12 months.

To be truly honest, i don't buy into the whole excuse/reason/justification of economic reasoning for not buying a membership, this is in general not for everyone.

Here's someone speaking as a full-time student, part time worker who is feeling the hit from interest rate rises on my mortgage, all time high fuel time prices and the general increase in everyday living.

None of this will stop me from getting my membership, no way! The payment plans the club are offering make it virtually impossible not to sign up, in any case during the times of celebration throughout the year (bdays, xmas etc) surely when your asked what you'd like or if they know you love the club, a basic membership wouldn't cost more than an elaborate gift!

Disappointing is what it is.

Here is an idea. For those that buy a ticket for each game and not a membership, dont buy the $8 bucket of chips or the $6 bottle of coke at the footy and put it aside for a membership. Correct me if im wrong, but we (the club) dont get any extra revenue for food/drink sales as its already incorperated in our shitty stadium deal.

Not being critical - but I do wonder why the Bulldogs are coming out today, 6 days before the cut off date? Why wasn't there a concerted effort weeks ago to sign up more members?

11-1-1 and minimal membership marketing - a bit weird.

But hope a lot of people sign up! I think 40 have signed up so far today according to the Doggies website.

I would have thought the players have done all the marketing that was necessary.

Stefoid - I read your posts regularly and can see you are a passionate supporter of the bulldogs. Please feel free to Private message me, as I would be delighted to help you out with a GA membership in 08.

I am by no means wealthy, but I could afford another membership and I see this as a win win situation as it will help the club and a supporter to become a member

I appreciate the sentiment, but dont give the membership to me. Ill be back to being a member like I have been for the last X number of years running as soon as I can.

However, you can give the membership to maybe a young person who wouldnt otherwise go to the foty - club will get the same benefit and you might hook another bulldog supporter.

I have signed up my 5 year old nephew a month or two ago, he lives in Brissy and loves his card and Doggies hat. I hope he is still supporting us when he is 40 ;)

I applaud your commitment to personally get a membership

But disrespect your views that other's don't have a justification for economic reasons not to get one.

Maybe they have kids, bigger mortgages, further to drive to work, paying divorce settlements, out of work, getting a house deposit together, getting married, paying for kids schooling, paying a bill, miserly missus, buying a business, buying a car or numerous other reasons.

And these are more challenging financial times than last year, interest rates are up and so is petrol.

I have an interstate family membership (4 games) I usually get to 3 games a year, but this year probably mainly due to bigger mortgage repayments and higher petrol prices, will only get to 1 maybe a slight chance of 2.

One size of jock's doesn't fit everyone
