I upgraded to a full family membership just last week - it took me 6 months to convince the missus and a promise I would stop smoking if we won the GF.
I was a full family membership last year, but only initially got general admission due to tough times and a slight lack of confidence for this year. But always knowing I could upgrade if we did well, which I am very pleased about now.
So I also signed up a new member, my 6 month old girl :thumbsu:

I have been a member for over three decades and have gone to practically ever Melb game .

One thing that we have is a small following and a large per capita bunch of sooks amongst that following - Very low % have real financial restrictions.

Here is an idea. For those that buy a ticket for each game and not a membership, dont buy the $8 bucket of chips or the $6 bottle of coke at the footy and put it aside for a membership. Correct me if im wrong, but we (the club) dont get any extra revenue for food/drink sales as its already incorperated in our shitty stadium deal.
yeah, that revenue at Telstra Dome goes straight into Ian Collins pocket - The Arse Wipe !

Not true. Over the last few years we have had the greatest retention rate of members of any club in the league. In saying that I don't know the figures from this year, but at least it proves that the same members keep coming back. So you can shove you 'large per capita bunch of sooks' up your arse.:thumbsu:

I applaud your commitment to personally get a membership

But disrespect your views that other's don't have a justification for economic reasons not to get one.

Maybe they have kids, bigger mortgages, further to drive to work, paying divorce settlements, out of work, getting a house deposit together, getting married, paying for kids schooling, paying a bill, miserly missus, buying a business, buying a car or numerous other reasons.

And these are more challenging financial times than last year, interest rates are up and so is petrol.

I have an interstate family membership (4 games) I usually get to 3 games a year, but this year probably mainly due to bigger mortgage repayments and higher petrol prices, will only get to 1 maybe a slight chance of 2.

One size of jock's doesn't fit everyone

Thank God I don't have one of these!

Yeah, that's another pack of smokes a month people will be missing out on!!!:D
I always find this amazing.

People whinge about not being able to afford stuff, yet smoke two packs of cigarettes a week, averaging out to about $11 a packet, or $22 a week, or $88 a month, or roughly $1,100 a year.

Why would you do that for something that doesn't give you any apparent benefit?

Instead spend it on something worthwhile that isn't slowly killing you, like a membership, or a trip somewhere, or an instrument, or a night out (maybe a couple of nights out).

Your assertions are emotiveand inaccurate.

You are wrong. We have one of the highest per capita churn rates.

The single biggest excuse reported by the club for non starters this year was our poor finish to 2007 = sooks.

We do have a high conversion rate per capita and I suspect this is what you think you are saying. But then you may fall into another demographic the ignorant plonker

i have yet to sign up and it is not because i am sooking about last yr. i still don't have a job after being cleared fit to go back to work a month ago. looks like i may miss out this year which will make me feel very awkward signing up next year as i may appear as a bandwagoner.

What nonsense that our only supporters must be rusted on supporters each year. Are we going to turn away those who only want to join for a year? Or those who want to spend their money elsewhere the next year? Or those who suffer tragedy and no longer can commit? And those who genuinely can't afford? Are we to sit in judgement on those who join one year but decide to go to the pub to watch it on TV the next?

So lets tell these people that we don't want their money if they're only going to join for one year. One year's money is better than none, and for that we should be thankful instead of blaming them and DEMANDING that they rejoin.

We would be far better off asking how our long term strategy to develop future members is going? Do we have targeted strategies for different areas and is it yielding results? Like is Darwin producing huge increases in members? Does having players visit schools actually result in new members? I'd like to see figures to show that what we are doing for the long term is actually working....and at a rate that is faster than our competitors.

Another review is needed on HOW to grow our supporter base....and to see which areas have stagnant growth and which areas we can grow the fastest. Berating members who have not re-joined is not the answer to our long term problems.

I recently got my son an AFL membership to go with his junior Bulldogs membership for 2008 (long story) leaving him with 2 memberships.

If anyone's interested let me know and I'll send them his Bulldogs junior membership which would still get you a few games this year (and won't affect the club in any way since our Dome payments are fixed by that prick Collins).:thumbsu:

Rose and his team have worked their butts off to get the off field into order, the team has only lost one match, yet we have so called supporters out there that won't buy a membership. Don't tell me they can't afford it. They are still turning up to games and paying the entrance fee. So dissapointing to be down on membership numbers from last year. Rose says he is embarrassed by this, to be last on the membership list in the AFL.

If you look at the West Coast game there was over 30,000 there and probably about 1000 West Coast supporters. Brisbane game nearly 40,000 at the G, maybe 5000 Lions supporters.

Come on guys Monday is the cutoff to buy a membership.
Sorry I missed the part where Rose come out and said he was embarrassed by our supporters? When was this?

people with memberships seriously shouldn't be so hard on people that don't. like ive mentioned in the past i feel like i am stealing from the dogs everytime i watch them play because i am not signed up. but what should i just turn off the tv or not attend the games( have only managed 2 games so far) just because i don't have work therefore cannot afford to pay up. also before people mention for me to get off my lazy arse i have been trying to get a job for over a month since i have been allowed to. 2 years out of work due to injury and no money from the tac or centerlink doesn't help either. im sure there are others who loved the bulldogs just as much as i do and if not more then i do and more then some members do who are unable to sign up due to there diffuclties but is it fair to call them non true fans and so forth. be greatful you are in a position that alows you to be able to recieve a membership but to clasify yourself a greater fan because of it is unfair.

What do you mean most are sooks? Every Bulldogs supporter I know has a membership if they can afford. I ask the question to you guys. How many people you know who actually follow football and the Bulldogs don't have a membership.

Personally talking to supporters off other clubs they simply point to our history as the reason for poor membership and when compared to other top clubs you have to agree.

This current mob off players, board and administration can change all that by being successful.

Its a vicious circle but the cycle off poor membership can only be broken by being successful.

Having a sustained winning games percentage greater than 50% and winning the occasional premiership is what I call success.

This year could be the start off a new dawn and look forward to greater success on and off the field myself.

No point trying to bag some dudes here waste off breath really.

If you take the trouble of reading my other posts you will see that I point towards the majority of non staters from last year stating the poor finish in 2007 as the reason they have not signed up .... and they are sooks end of story.

I actually think we have more bulldogs supporters as members this year than last year. My gut feel is that the members we have lost have been sympathy members who support other clubs and buy a bulldogs membership to support victorian football. I think that a lot of these ex-members have gone and bought kangaroos memberships this year in response to going against the AFL and the Gold Coast relocation. I wouldn't be suprised if we have lost 1000-2000 members because of this.

The clubs research does not support your assertion.

Plonker? ME! Sheesh.

If I could only find the bloody link to prove you wrong. Smorgan said last year that as far as fickle members go we are the best in the league. Most clubs have a turn over of around 6,000 where as we are around the 3/4 thousand average. This was stated last year. I think 5,000 haven't signed up again this year which still puts us in the better then average retention rate. What little members we do have are the loyalist, not the sookiest as you claim.

I just hope there aren't many people out their complaining about being unable to afford a membership while puffing away on a cigarette, or downing another can of Jim Beam.

They're the people who really frustrate me.

Look, I was a member last year and until today, had not resigned this year. My reasons were partially financial but I know I could have sacrificed some things earlier to get one. Me not renewing at the start of the year had nothing to do with our performance at the tail end of last year. I went to no matches last year and probably wont be able to go to any this year due to work and playing football myself. I just dont think it's fair to bag people that havnt renewd. They dont have to have any reason at all. If they dont want to they dont have to, and at least they have helped us out at some stage. I am very glad to be back on board though I must say
