really....W.C's Ginbey pushed Lalor into on coming traffic in a pre season game, fractured jaw and concussion was the result for Lalor...The AFL like to punish based on outcome, less on intent. While the act of pushing a player into others CAN cause injury, so can many other things in footy (Like taking a speccy and kneeing someone in the head).
As long as a push is in the act of playing the footy, which I believe the above was, I don't believe it should be punished. Now if he pushed him into someone and the ball wasn't the clear objective, different cicircumstance.
It doesn't matter whether malice was in it or not. The AFL set the precedent for this type of action with Mansell earlier this year so 4 weeks it is!I didn't really spot the malice in it. More of a footy accident, imo. No ban required.
Mansell didn’t go for the ball. He pushed his opponent into a marking contest. Ben has just pushed his opponent out of the way to get the ball. Feel bad for him copping a massive suspension. It doesn't matter whether malice was in it or not. The AFL set the precedent for this type of action with Mansell earlier this year so 4 weeks it is!
Calm yourself down. It was a footy accident. And the one earlier this year was a guy running backwards going for a mark and got collected. The push helped him get to the ball which is exactly what he was focused on doing. He was going for that mark regardless of the nudge. It doesn't matter whether malice was in it or not. I am very calm. I agree with what you have said it being a footy accident and the rest.Calm yourself down. It was a footy accident. )No, Mansell pushed his opponent out of the way to get separation to compete in the next contest (which is what Camporeale has also done). The fact Mansell's opponent ran blindly into an oncoming pack going for a mark, which was his intent, and got concussed is soley on him. As DazalenkoUBewty stated, the push helped Mansell's opponent get to where he wanted to be.Mansell didn’t go for the ball. He pushed his opponent into a marking contest. Still doesn't feel right. Looks worse than Lynch's punch to be honest.
Brilliant handling of the whole situation. And he's out this week due to concussion anyway

Cool. I guess my point is that the AFL is farcical atm with some of its decisions.I am very calm. I agree with what you have said it being a footy accident and the rest.
What I was pointing out was that the AFL set the precedent earlier this year with Mansell whereby if you a push a player and he gets concussed you can expect an extended holiday. Malice or not the outcome is what the AFL is focussed on (and in some cases the potential outcome -)

If you look at the force of Ben's push, there really isn't much to the push.
Watch both Lions players in slow motion and it looks like they would've collided regardless of Ben's involvement.
Did we watch the same vision?
They were likely going to clash but not forcefully. The push caused the impact to be as severe as it was.
