Competition Can-Am Premiership 2022 - Preseason Thread - Postponed indefinitely

Welcome to the preseason thread for the 2022 Canadian-American Premiership (Can-Am).

This the the beginning of the road to

The new season will not kick off until around early July, but now is the time to begin the bidding and design process as it would appear the board is in a small competition design quiet period.


This season will continue the uniform style set that was introduced in 2019 and modified for 2021 for the Can-Am Uniforms, however the Can-Am 2 has been replaced with Can-Am W. Further information about Can-Am W will be posted below.

As with previous seasons uniforms are not called home and away, instead they are replaced with the Ignite and Spirit uniforms. The Ignite will remain primarily white and will be used in home games and the Spirit will be primarily coloured and used in away games. The Can-Am W uniform is named the Empower uniform and will require franchises to incorporate a female uniform template, however the uniform can be any colour and based around that franchises new branding.

Further to this the 4 franchises that made the Conference Round of the playoffs will be required to create a 4th uniform called Realize. This uniform is a free choice as to the design, but should be unique compared to the Ignite and Spirit. This uniform is a reward for these franchises, but also a reminder of how close to glory they were. As such the designs may be anything that the franchise feels worthy of being displayed for their city or brand. This uniform will be worn a minimum of 1 time during the season.

Finally, as in (some) previous seasons, the Champions will also have what is now a 5th uniform. Known the United uniform, this design is required to feature gold in the design as it is to celebrate the previous seasons championship, and will be worn in the franchises opening home game.

Franchises from 2021 will have priority over their locations and team names, as well as the first chance to relocate/rebrand.

OFFICIAL UNIFORM GUIDE

• All guernseys MUST be Adidas branded (see final dot point) and feature the Adidas 3 stripes somewhere on the Guernsey (position is up to the designer and may change across all three designs). The new Adidas logo may also be positioned wherever the designer chooses so long as it appears on the guernsey and is clearly visible (can also be included on a jock tag or inside the collar, but only in addition to the main logo). The new Adidas logo must also feature on the shorts (right side facing).
• All designs (Ignite and Spirit) must be on the same template. The same applies for those eligible for Realize and United uniforms.
• Ignite Guernseys must be at least 51% white.
• Ignite Shorts may be any colour.*
• Ignite Socks must be at least 33% white.
• Spirit Guernseys must be at least 51% coloured.
• Spirit Shorts may be any colour, including being the same as the Ignite.*
• Spirit Socks must be at least 33% coloured, cannot be the same as the Ignite.
• Empower Guernsey may be anything, but must be on a female template.
• Empower Shorts may be any colour, on a female template.
• Empower Socks may be any colour.
• ALL UNIFORMS this season will utilise the new Adidas logo found in the logo post below. (Yep we are jumping the gun and switching to the soon to be unveiled new Adidas logo before anyone else).

*Shorts may be the same design across the two designs (Ignite and Spirit) if the designer chooses to do so.

• Sponsor to appear in usual AFL front position (right side facing)
• Player name to appear below the number on the back (usual sponsor position)
• Numbers on the back must feature number logo (posted below).
• Numbers must appear on the front of the guernsey, same font as back, cannot be more than 50% the size of the back, number colour does not need to match the back.
• Number must appear on the shorts (left side facing), same font as back of the guernsey, size no larger than 50% of the back number, colour does not need to match back number.
• Conference logo must appear above number on the back (cannot be recoloured).
• Can-Am W teams will use the Can-Am W logo instead of the Conference logo (cannot be recoloured).
• Champions logo (found here) must appear on Seattle, Indiana*, Miami*, and Los Angeles Bears kits only (Not on Attain kit). (*Even though Indiana and Miami have won 2 titles they will still wear just 1 star if and when they play in the competition).
• Team logos are now required for Can-Am team as a separate image, Can-Am W teams logo must appear on kit presentation image.

Submission deadline is TBD 2022 11:59:59pm AEST, I will respond if a design meets guidelines or not. I will try and get back to you as soon as possible to confirm your design meets guidelines, but this may not always be possible so do not leave things to the last minute.

A reminder about the Can-Am W:

This is like the womens leagues in Canadian and American sports. This season all franchises will be required to submit a Ignite (still predominantly white) kit, an Spirit (coloured) kit, and a Women's franchise kit (Empower) as well as logos for both teams (main franchise as a separate image, Women's within the kits image).

As this is a new league, the rules will partially follow the old Can-Am 2 to make things easier. As such the new Women's franchise will be required to be located in an area close to the Can-Am main franchise. This will mean for franchises in an area where they are the sole inhabitant having the opportunity to use any location within their state or province (e.g. Vancouver's Can-Am W franchise may be located anywhere within British Columbia), however if more than one franchise is located within the same state, province, or even city, it will need to have an approved location to base the Can-Am W franchise (e.g. 2 New York based franchises may choose a different borough for each, or have one based in the city, and the other within the state, or in California, a LA based franchise would need to be based close to LA, while a San Francisco based franchise would need to be in the northern part of the state).

Can-Am W franchises do not need to have a name link or similar colors to their Can-Am partner, but if the owner chooses to do so they may be related.

This season unlike previous seasons owners will be required to announce their Can-Am W franchise names to avoid any potential clashes.

Can-Am W kits will be required to be on a female based template. The Can-Am W team will for this season use the Can-Am W logo on their kits, but as with previous seasons with the Can-Am 2, the design can be anything (light or dark kit) so long as it still features the new Adidas logo and 3 stripes.

Submission entry will open following the closing of the new teams bidding process.

Submission of entries:

Entry submissions close on TBD 2022, 11:59:59pm AEST.

Entries must be submitted through PM, any image hosting site is acceptable, however links will NOT be accepted, the PM must contain your entry as an image, if you send just links or images acting as links, they will not be counted and penalties may apply if the mistake is not corrected prior to the closing of entries. Also please check you entries with the guidelines before submitting as I would like to not have to tell people that they have not met the criteria when they are clearly stated.

When submitting please use the PM title: 2022 Can-Am Entry: Replace with your team name. This will allow me to quickly and easily find your submission should any issues arise.

Failure to submit or failure to submit correctly before closing will face the following penalties:

Days 1-2: Automatic 2 losses counted on team record for every day late. (Day 2 = 4 losses total)

Day 3: Unable to finish 1st in Conference no matter final record.

Days 4-5: Automatic 2 losses counted on team record for every day late. (Day 5 = 8 losses total)

Day 6: Unable to finish in the top 4 in Conference no matter final record (can only qualify as a 5th and 6th placed wild card).

Day 7: Unable to qualify for finals no matter final record.

Day 8: Automatic exclusion from future competition.

Last season's kit designer has had to get a full time job selling car parts to pay the bills and is unsure if he will find time to join the NY Nationals again for season 2022.

I am doing this as I am very concerned that the league competitions on this board have begun to die off very quickly and I am unsure if we will even get the numbers needed for this to run at the moment. This has certainly been shown with the lack of response from previous participants.

The way things feel around here right now (the lack of finishing the NAFL, and the very sluggish running of other league comps - not blaming anyone, but it is just the facts), I am thinking that either 2023 or never again may be the actual running postition of this competition as I really have concerns that there will not be enough participation to run it (especially with the long timers dropping out).

Craegus What do you think is the likelihood of this getting off the ground? Like what would be the minimum number of entrants you’d ideally be wanting? I have my team logo sorted but not sure whether to make a start with the kits.
