Thats opera ya twit. Im talking about raving popularity. Smash hit Asian bands. The fact no one has named one yet speaks volume about the observation.
LOL

If it's popularity you want, these guys are ****ing huge atm :D:

Their 2007 studio album, Exile Love, became the highest selling album of Japan in 2008, selling nearly 1.5 million copies on Oricon charts. Use some logic - Is it more likely that you've never heard a good Asian singer because you have only ever listened to few, if any professional Asian singers, and you are basing this observation on a revelation that came to you while watching American Idol, or because there are just no good Asian singers, despite the thriving Asian music industry populated almost exclusively by Asian singers?

I would think the former is more likely than the latter.

Watching American Idol last night me and the woman came to a realisation that we have never heard or seen a good Asian singer in our lifetimes.

IMO they have a genetic flaw that just gives them crappy singing voices, especially when it comes to the females. Theres the odd male who can crank a tune but no female. Id like to be proven wrong

Anyone care to point me in the right direction?

No you weren't - your original post did not indicate this at all. Opera is singing in a very pure form and clearly a demonstration of vocal abilities.

Mentioning genetic flaw also implied racial overtones.

Stereotyping is an insidious form of racism, especially by ridiculing a part of our community based on limited exposure.

At many Vietnamese weddings its customary for family members to sing, most do it with grace and confidence, as well as sounding beautiful. In fact, the title of this thread is bewilderingly ignorant.

Even the ones who are bad, know it and run the joke with aplomb.

I have been blessed to hear and see many who to you refer.

Hmm, interesting observation. Since I haven't really been exposed to their music scene that much it's hard to say if they have anyone that can rival the brilliance of Bec Cartwright, Dannii Minogue, Jennifer Ellison or even Tracy Shaw. They have a few dude bands like X-Japan and Chage & Aska that reprezent, but they don't really rival the global acclaim and sustained popularity of say, The Living End or The Rogue Traders.

That was seriously hilarious.

Old mate from Regurgitator (terrible band but feel compelled to prove op incorrect) looked fairly Asian and he managed to belt out a few songs in tune....

Apparently Asians are also genetically flawed as i have never seen a good Asian NFL/NHL player. Horrible thread, massively ignorant OP and mass pwning with plenty of examples coming in.

Paul Kariya: He scored his first NHL goal on January 27, 1995 against the Winnipeg Jets. Five-time NHL All-Star, Two-time Canadian Olympic Team Member. First player of Asian descent to have captained a NHL team. NHL veteran with over 900 games of experience.

Richard Park has played over 500 NHL games too.

I presume that you are referring to Quan Yeomans who is Vietmanese-Australian.

With regards to female singers, Bic Runga and KT Tunstall immediatly come to mind.

She's Maori isn't she?

Keep in mind it's extremely hard for a talented Asian singer to break into a majority-white (or majority non-asian) market. Look at the stereotypes littered in this thread from ignorant-minded fools for starters. Also keep in mind that what is popular in 'J-Pop' and 'K-Pop' is often dictated by fads rather than talent (as is so often the case in western society anyway).

Nicole, the reason why the pussycat dolls are famous, is far more talented than the group's image and music let's on:

bic runga

norah jones

Being 'half-asian' in terms of physical appearance certainly helps one to break into the western society's mainstream because of the image.

Even our very own guy sebastian... say what you will about his music, but only an idiot would deny the talent in his vocals.
