who believe the world revolves around them?

Do we really need farmers?
Considering farming has been the corner stone of every civilization on record I would say the answer would be yes

They breed intolerance and racial hatred through ignorance. Indeed, their racial hatred can be traced back to the earlier moments of European settlement and their attitudes to Aborigines and the resulting frontier violence
Thinking about it I have seen a lot of ethnic gangs running around rural Australia lately having gang wars. I’m not sure if you have ever been out of your little urban bliss but many country towns a thriving mixture of cultures look at Bendigo, Renmark the list goes on assuming that is you have heard of these places. Also remember my urban friend the majority of earlier settlers were from Metropolitan England

They are conservative and resistant to change - this is from voting to religious values but has also invading farming practices whereby they continue to engage in practices that are unproductive, costly and environmentally damaging
Conservative maybe but when has this been a crime in Australia??
Invading farming Australia is at the forefront of sustainable agriculture, yes there have been mistakes in the past however unlike some they learn from there mistakes.
Unfortunately there are some things such as Rice and cotton which put too a lot of pressure on the environment but their are been great improvements – after all we are only trying to feed 1 billion people with this product

The whinge factor. Surely, I'm not the only one on this forum who nearly vomits when they here farmers complain about the effects of the drought (as if they are forced to remain on the land) only to turn and complain that when it does rain that it is either:-
(a) Too little, too late and not enough to save their crops; or
(b) Has caused widespread flooding and destroyed their grains, etc.
yes to you it may seem this way but farming is a fickle industry, i realise rain to you is just an annoyance which means you have to carry your umbrella to school but it is the life blood of this country, I’m sure you wont be complaining when the taxes from millions of dollars earned from farmers paying tax is spent fixing up the pavements in your urban heaven. Or creating a lovely sculpture that you can look at while driving to work in your office.

They are the biggest drain on our tax dollars and they have the audacity to whinge about Aborigines getting welfare benefits. If only Aborigines received half the inducements and benefits farmers' received, they may have something to complain about!.
the stupidity of that statement does not deserve a response

They are tax cheats - has anyone ever heard of a farmer actually declaring an income on a tax return?? If so, please notify the Guinness Book of Records!
Since you are the brilliant accountant here surely you would have realised that most tax claims made by a farmers can be made by you. Things such as depreciation of an asset and other business costs are open to all small businesses and large corporations, SO your telling me ( I assuming that you have the intellect to gain employment) that you don’t claim any thing you possibly can on your tax, I know I do and I don’t work on the land. If you don’t well that’s your business I suppose

Who else in this country gets interest free loans and subsidies on fuel?

I think you'll find friend that they are not interest free loans and many people get subsidies on petrol look at the whole of QLD.

I am sorry if any of that was a bit blasé but at 11.30 at night I open up my internet to see an extremely ignorant person putting posts about something they obviously have no idea about.

You think about exactly what your parents/friends and even yourself do for a living. know explain to me how you wish to go about feeding and clothing yourself without farmers.

Also to the morons who say import it from a third world country or anywhere - do some econmics and you can explain that to yourself

Can't you see what you've done? Exactly what Crocodileman did. You post all this ignorance and negativity towards the city folk. You don't help change the negative attitude towards farmers at all. And yes, my family has been farming for 4 generations, ever since moving from what was Prussia to SA, then becoming pioneer farmers in WA.

OK, fair enough Grolm, having read that particular post I apologise for calling you ignorant. In a very similar thread, you did imply I was an "urban cowboy". Fact is, I last worked in the big smoke in 1987. In a few weeks time I am going home to the farm to drive the header for harvest. I have posted several posts on BF re farming and agriculture, and they are about 50:50 pos/neg.I like to look at both sides. Last week I expressed what I thought about PETA and the damage they've caused to the wool industry. I stand by my views that farmers do receive more welfare than other small business owners (although at times the really needy farmers do not get the financial aid - the good letter writers and greedy farmers do). They also complain about others "whinging" and 'talking shop", though in my experience are just as bad themselves. I have also experienced, in three different countries I've lived in, a higher degree of intolerance towards ethnic minorities in rural areas than cities.

Grolm, ******** off back into your hole, you dog! No person with half a brain has any time for farmers - they stink in every sense of the word. Go back and die in your own little dusty outcrop, I'll give you a few seeds and the alcohol, you'll have to BYO the ignorance and stupidity - something I know you'll be able to do!
