Can Geelong Become the Biggest Vic Club?

Why would anyone actually care about being the "biggest" club, by the way?
I've never worried about being the biggest club. I admit that maybe that's been conditioned by always knowing we would never hold that mantle.

So I've only ever been concerned about the hope of us being the best club. Both in any given season, and as a club that conducts itself with class when compared to its competitors. In that respect, at least, the club has given me every reason to enjoy the last couple of decades.

All of which means that ultimately the idea that there is a strong correlation between being 'biggest' and being 'best' is clearly pretty marginal.

I am accepting that Geelong will never be the biggest club, but I am also accepting that we have become one of, if not the best run club in the competition, thanks to the hard work in the early days by Frank Costa, Brian Cook and Bomber Thompson, and the ongoing work of Chris Scott (in my view THE best coach in the AFL) and Steve Hocking.

It's why on BF supporters of other clubs try to cut Geelong down, because against all conventions, we just keep on presenting as a finalist every year, even after losing superstars like Hawkins, Selwood, Ablett etc.

I'm hopeful of any growth we can continue to make. For clubs like Collingwood, even after sustained periods of being rubbish, they are always going to be okay.

It still wasn't that long ago that we were sitting with the stkildas and dogs of the competition. It's extraordinary to me and a massive credit that, we are now constantly criticised by other clubs as having unfair advantages.

Since our growth, we haven't been through a down period, I hope the growth we've had sustains and for that sake am happy to keep endeavouring to be a really big club.

It's like people who have a long self-abuse session over whether their side has won 16 AFL/VFL flags or not. The only people who care are Carlton, Collingwood and Essendon supporters. Nobody else.

Here, here iameviljez:.... and given we're now in the AFL National Competition era, I'm mean quite seriously who else would care a f**k except for some insecure supporters from those 3 clubs mentioned.
