Can Hawthorn succeed while ignoring the elite end of the draft?

Well that depends on how you look at it. If you look at it as back-to-back finals appearances/campaigns instead of back-to-back years then yes, Hawthorn flopped out in consecutive finals appearances.
So if a team won the Premiership one year, didn't make finals the next and then won again the year after you'd claim they won Back-to-Back Premierships?

Solid logic!

Apparently it's harder than b2b and proof of real greatness

Ned's been MIA for a while, I do hope he's alright.

Also, WHY ISN'T YOUR POST IN CAPITALS?
Ned tends to take the off season off.

Well no, because someone else would've won a premiership in between so it wouldn't be back-to-back premierships. You could say they had consecutive finals campaigns that resulted in a flag, though.

The football abilities of Wingard, Scully, Patton and Frost are not any less deserving of wearing a medal around their necks than many of the premiership players that got to wear one this year.

They all definitely have the quality and ability to play an important role in contributing towards success. Remember Hawks culture and mindset is all about team. Since 2016 Clarko/Wright have quickly transitioned and assembled a new team that will challenge again soon. I can understand all the saltiness and envy because it just ain’t fair!

So the hawks should be contending in 2 years?

Probably needs to - Harford and Champion Data talking up a couple of 31 year olds:

Brilliant drafting by Hawks picking up Hendo who is killing it and keeping the seat warm until Day develops and comes in.

Hawks should diversify and get into the insurance industry and promote Wright to be the chief actuary!

Imagine this thread If the Hawks win round 1!!

Then again imagine it if they lose!!!
Have you seen Bigfooty? Posters always overreact to a round 1 loss regardless of the teams. Keep a look out for the "X team won't play finals" posts when X team is trailing in the 3rd quarter of round 1.
