Here i was thinking that the world was all doom and gloom, then i wake to read that richmond want pagan, and even better, that collins relationship with pagan is on the rocks............... can all my birthdays and Christmas’s come at once??

Carlton president Ian Collins will be in no rush to extend a contract that's costing his club more than $700,000 a year.

It's good to hear that collins is not thinking of extending pagans contract, and if it was to happen it would be at considerably less then the 700,000 plus figure that he is now receiving.

For a club that claims it is struggling financially and has asked it's supporters to dig deep on numerous occasions over the last three years, i think it is outrageous that they are paying pagan that exorbitant amount.

Look at grant thomas, you don't have to be a good coach to have a good team.................... just a long spell on the bottom half of the ladder and a priority pick or two. Lets hope pagan decides that he is too good for a pay cut, and decides to leave before his contract is over........................ tomorrow would be great.

How important is a coach?

Lets have a look at the last 10 or so coaches to have won flags, going backwards:

Matthews

"Supercoaches" all of them. Coincidence?

Thomas has a gun team, it hasn't won the flag just yet though, which is how we at Carlton measure success, and at the time of employing Pagan we decided he was worth the price to get someone with such a proven record - knowing full well he didn't have the list to bring a flag to Carlton in the short term.

Time will tell of course, but let's not be kneejerk about axing our coach mid-season.

What might happen is at the end of next year he gets offered half or a bit more.
Dennis has other interests outside footy. But before he goes nthing will tickle his fancy more than having the Blues on an even keel.

You're the type of uneducated ... no knowledge football fan that has no idea about the game!!! Have a look at the blokes post about grand final coaches, name one who is a no name.

OH and by the way grant thomas is manager not coach, terry daniher is practically coaching the side.

Pagan is about the best in the business. He has taken a terrible list, with ageing talent and has brought in a number of new players he believes he can build a side around, ie stevens, scotland, teague, norman, walker, deluca, morrel etc. Trust me there is no chance he'll be moving ne where soon!! If so who would we get?? Hmmm someone of the quality of Peter Rhode ....

As for richmond ... TERRY WALLACE will coach them next year.

Hi Godsmack,

I can sympathise with your sentiments about Denis Pagan but do believe that coaches can make a positive impact on a team. I also believe that Denis has much to offer Carlton.

However I dont think that Carlton can afford to pay anyone $700,000. If Denis is fair dinkum about still having passion for the game and the club he barracked for as a kid then he would consider a pay cut.

I have never met Denis but have heard and read much about him. My instinct is that he has an astute football mind but can lose his awareness at times.

A good coach must have wisdom and be able to impart this wisdom to his team. This means being in control of your emotions and being able to read the personalities of the various players on your list in order to get the best from them.

I think that Denis can help Carlton on it's rise. However to do this I believe he needs to take a step back and work with his players. My feeling is that he is not at ease at the club and does not treat all with the calm that is needed. Problems need to be solved with a relaxed mind rather than a stressed or judgemental one.

as for you, i don't know what state you are from, or whether or not you are a member, but don't call me a troll, i have supported this club for 27 years, and financially supported them for over 10 of those years, so to you i say GO FORTH AND MULTIPLY WITH YOURSELF..............
