Can Port Power win a premiership under Josh Carr?

Josh seems to have good footy knowledge

The only unanswered question which cannot be answered as no one knows the inner workings of port this year

Was, were the reins handed over to Josh this year and was he partly responsible for decisions this year which may not be a good answer for how good Josh will be as a coach as the decisions this year were not good at all

With port knowing early that Ken was gone it would have been logical to hand a fair bit of decision making to Josh whilst Ken was still there

But then again who uses logic

I'm not expecting a whole lot. There has been a s**t load of coaching changes and know one knows how the players will react.

Player wise, we should see an improvement in our depth as we effectively cut out the no hoppers and brought in role players.

The fixture next year should ease a bit, so we are a good chance to at least make the wild card rounds.

Port Adelaide could make top 4 next year they've made some tweaks to their playing list/coaching staff and a new game plan could see them play a style that's better suited to finals footy.

it’s clear as day that butters is leaving they should have just bit the bullet and traded him this year while he was contracted, there top 6 players are elite then they fall away massively very lopsided list they are probably good enough to stay mid table which is probably no a great thing with compromised drafts on the way

Think he has a point. You even see it with fans.
The 'We exist to win premierships' moniker means SFA in the big boys league.

Time to move on from backwater league flags.

Give Carr the mindset to help the club succeed.

He's just emphasising that we need to get the real Port Adelaide back after 13 years of the Handbag era loser stinking out the joint.

Yeah, because we can’t have history AND current success, right? It’s impossible.

It may be a shock, but the affairs of the SA clubs are of far more interest to people from SA than the affairs of Vic clubs are.
Its a two team town, so in reality its no different than if a St Kilda supporter asked a question about North.
Can’t say I’ve ever held an interest in what your rabble is up to…

Most likely they go backwards before they go forwards. Hope im wrong, I like Port, the supporters are crazier that we are, in a good way.

VICBias and BIGBias mean they may get shafted over f/s reforms, but Carlton have some f/s coming through and they do have clout, Port might sneak a few through under a blue wing.

We were supposedly doomed last decade when bottom of the heap and GWS/GC coming into the comp.

You just have to make do with what you get. The relative youth of the squad (Aliir, Wines and Byrne/Jones the only players over 27) and the F/S and NGA crop coming through during these next 2/3 drafts should hold us in good stead.

Cochrane being ruled eligible for an academy selection should help and he'll love playing under Carr. The list isn't as bad as people think and could surge up the ladder next year similar to Collingwood in McRae's first year.

I'm expecting a premiership in 2026.

Very odd thread and question to be putting out before he’s even coached a game. No one has any idea how he will perform and the team will perform under Carr. Exactly the same as any other new coach when they come on board. What we do know is that Hinkley couldn’t and change was desperately needed.

Why don’t we have this question asked of every new coach? Simple answer is that this thread has only been created to be intentionally antagonistic.

Probably because Ken was announced to be leaving prior to year end and Josh was there and undoubtedly taking a fair bit of control

It’s just common sense that he would have been slowly taking over the reins

No club would be stupid enough not to orchestrate that

Except for a club that was stupid enough to announce a succession plan before the season had even started.

Considering there was no changes to structure, game plan or positions, I’d say any control he was being handed over was extremely minimal outside of fronting a few press conferences.

Common sense wouldn’t

Given the amount of turnover of football staff and the pace it happened post season with some very good (on the surface appointments), the succession plan has allowed Carr to
  • spend his 2025 season evaluating how he would coach strategy and tactic wise with the squad he has, and
  • just as importantly to be able to approach people he wanted in support with the pull of a head coach position and with a whole year to work it out.

Now that we know the Power won't win one under Kenny, what's the chances they can win one under Carr?

I think Carr's reign will be a continuance of what was happening under Ken, as I dont think he was the reason the Power wernt winning like some expected them to. I believe Ken got the most out of that squad, and the long term outlook for the squad is not as good as what they had.

We have Boak and Rioli retired, Wines on the way out, and some large list holes, that arnt easy to fix.

Port over the next five years will swing between 8th and 14th place, and I dont think he will get past five years without making a prelim at least.
Port will win the world cup.
