Can somebody work out the origin of this grand final Guernsey?

Hi guys, I've recently bought this 2017 GF Guernsey and am interested in it's story. It has 'player edition' on the bottom, GPS sleeve behind the neck and the number is printed into the material. All signs lead towards a player issue jumper, but the GF logo is printed on and not the logo that gets heat pressed onto the Guernsey. If anyone has any idea about the origin of the jumper i'd love to find out! Thanks.

Hey mate, it’ll be a reproduction/replica jumper. Sadly there’s a lot of these going around nowadays.

There’s a couple of different ways that you can tell, the easiest way to tell is what you’d referenced to with the Grand Final patch being sublimated into the jumper. Due to the short turn around time between the prelim and the grand final the patches are heat pressed on, I’ve got a player issue from our 2019 Premiership. Here’s an example of the patch:

The cut of the GPS pouch is completely different, Puma have a foam like pouch that is clearly stitched to the back of the jumper.

The legitimate player issue jumpers are almost like a top quality rash-vest, they’re really stretchy and made from a very unique and light material.

It still looks very similar to the real thing though, any Richmond jumper with a grand final logo on it looks awesome, especially with the number four on the back. It’s certainly still a cool jumper to have. :)

Hey Tradespert, thanks for the thorough reply. That evidence leads to conclusion that it's a replica, oh well, it's for a memorabilia piece I'm building and will still look close to the real thing as a centrepiece. I really wanted a jumper that reminds me of that great game in 2017 and this was the closest i could find. I thought I had stumbled across something extra special. As you said it still looks cool and the number 4 is always a win ;). Thankyou again for clearing it up for me!
