Can someone define a Frontrunner?

check the original post by skipper, refers to the 2000 premiership side, I pointed to the 2001 GF side...playing against decent opposition this time the frontrunners were found out...pretty simple.

We were up at half time and ran out of legs due to injury in the second half.

The Lloyd suspension for the love tap he gave to Gaspar did not help. That decision single handedly cost us the 2001 GF.

Good luck with your 20 years of mediocrity:thumbsu:

whatever makes you feel better. what happened the following year and the one after and the ongoing decline to 15th last year? At this rate you've locked in the spoon for the next couple.

3-0 by the way, fairweather.

We were found out by losing about 4 games (if memory serves me correctly) despite being utterly destroyed by injuries and losing the GF to one of the greatest sides in history?

Good luck with that.

Hawthorn are the home of the front-runner. Have been for most of the last decade. And it shows, when you consider their collective results in that time.

Here's some names: Crawford, Franklin, Williams, Croad, Dixon. How many would you trust in doing the hard yards? None.

I think potato head went after half those blokes at some stage, but thats ok you've got their poor cousins in Peverill, Johns, Bolton & Campo:thumbsu:

How does a hawthorn supporter have any creditability in talking about Grand Finals?

I agree you have creditability in talking about declines after playing in a GF....when was your last flag again?

As for the spoon, thats still up for grabs.

my creditability isn't bad, have 2 visa cards and a home loan.

geez you blokes are like seaguls, one pops in for a bite, then another..and now a third.

seen enough flags in my time, i'm ok, thanks.

here, go fetch another chip.

3-0.

A front runner IMO, is not just someone who does well when the team is doing well... A front runner is someone who is never prepared to put their body on the line... They will run forward of the contests yelling, 'yes mate, yes mate, give it to me,' but will be the last person to put their head over the ball and contest for it. Front runners are normally less likely to be accountable, and you'll rarely see them run back to man up. They rack up the uncontested stats though - normally getting the ball by recieving handballs out the side of the packs, and quite often get their names in the paper as a result.

Are you referring to the 22 players that played for Haw last week?:o

what a surprise, another seagul flies in...

Cole, Heffernan, Windowlicker, Slattery, Bradley, Dyson...

Sorry just picked myself off the floor after noticing your signature. Not sure if you were trying to be funny, but it's hilarious anyway. :D

it's part of a predictions thread, i backed a 6 gamer - he looks ok actually, keep an eye out.;)

Must be a great time to be in the Weagles midfield when you have Judd, Kerr and Cox taking all the spotlight from you. Definate front running outfit. :o

Isn't it interesting Hawk073 has stopped replying to me. How's it feel that the closest you've come to a flag since 1991 you got beaten by a bunch of "frontrunners"? Then again you yourself admitted they (Hawthorn) weren't "quality oppostion". :D

And Gandaal, Campo's wearing number 17 for us. Therefore he won't play many games before being delisted, so he can be a frontrunner all he wants. No number 17 at Essendon has played more than a handful of games for over 10 years.

You my friend are a world class twit. Why you would go and post something like that in regards to kerr after he gets 22 contested possesions in his last games beyond me.

If a front runner is a little guy, then thats fair enough. They have a lot of run, but not much to offer in the physical side of things. What is frustrating as **** though is when big guys are front runners. That just indicates that they are soft as butter and gutless.

Geez, there's a serious lack of reading comprehension in this thread.
SMFC was pointing out that with Kerr, Judd and Cox in the side, the other midfielders could afford to be frontrunners.

And skipper kelly was fairly accurate in his assessment of the 2000 team. There were a number of blokes in that team that were much better players in a good team than they would have been in a bad one, IMO.
Caracella, Moorcroft, Bewick, Alessio, Blumfield and Barnes are all players that got better when you put good players around them, and that's my biased view as a Bomber supporter. I guess a non-supporter would probably pick a couple more.
In fact, our entire team has been in recent times dependent on a couple of players to stand up and be counted, with nowhere near enough blokes willing to do it. I think we're starting to get over that now, but we've relied too much on too few for ages.

You can afford a couple of frontrunners in your team if you've got enough guys who stand up when needed, particularly if those frontrunners are highly skilled; exhibit Campo or Headland.
