Society/Culture Can we please stop equating the risk posed by left wing extremists with that of right wing extremists?

Sorry, the spread of Covid is an evolving situation - not whether a mask protects from a respiratory illness or not. That's not an evolving situation lol.

It seems you're confusing multiple issues.
Not really. There were questions over the effectiveness of masks in this instance.

Well well well... Another one - this time in Vienna. More murders/deaths caused by Islamic Extremism. As I said Europe only has itself to blame - its sad but reality doesn't give a *. Until the leaders take action and start doing their jobs this will keep happening. I'll wait for you guys to call it right wing extremism to try sweep it under the rug.

Its pretty piss poor to crusade on far right terrorism but typically facetious when it's the terrorism committed by an ideology you refuse to confront.

It fits the pattern of an Islamist terror attack - eg coordinated (like the 2015 November 13-14 attacks in Paris), reports of a guy wearing a suicide belt, "decadent" Western young people are targeted. But it's too early to say who was responsible.

I think it is militant Islam but seems to be a bit different this time, I'm seeing the targets were the slow and elderly. They're also on the run, hardcore Islamists are almost without exception ready to die/martyr themselves for the cause at the scene? Ie. They usually blow themselves up and everybody else within range or get shot by the cops.

I haven't seen any mention of military type weapons which might be interesting. They're using rifles I think?

From reports Salafi Jihadis with rifles.

So nativist, reactionary, ultra conservative, sexist, homophobic, Jew hating, pro-gun, angry, male nutters.... who are 'not' far Right wing.

They're 'different' from the nativist, reactionary, ultra conservative, sexist, homophobic, Jew hating, pro-gun, angry, male nutters of the Neo Nazis and other Far Right wing groups.

Toxic masculinity might cover it.

Conservative religious extremists are by definition right wing, this does not mean anyone is going to 'sweep it under the rug'. I'm still waiting for justification from you about your previous claims about me.

8pm on a Monday night would be a pretty dumb time to attack a synagogue. I think this is a red herring. The area was probably targeted because it is chock full of restaurants and bars.

Sorry for butting in but they might have moved their terror schedule forward as Austria was going back into lockdowns the following day. From my reading they only had two days notice of the looming lockdowns.

8pm on a Monday night would be a pretty dumb time to attack a synagogue. I think this is a red herring. The area was probably targeted because it is chock full of restaurants and bars.

Interior Minister Karl Nehammer said the attack was carried out by at least one Islamist terrorist. "This is a radicalised person who felt close to Islamic State," Mr Nehammer said.

My initial reaction was Salafi Islamists as well.

Of course its not like Austria doesn't have its own history of providing homegrown anti-Semitic, nativist, reactionary, sexist, homophobic warmongers either.

Good call. Quite possible I think. There will not be so many people out and about if you can only get takeaway.

I believe churches and synagogues will remain open - religious freedom is constitutionally protected in Austria. So if that was actually the target the terrorists didn't need to rush it.

Religious services through their last lockdown were banned on one positive case and quite a few of them closed, this lockdown was flagged as being much tougher.

It could have been a lot worse with six armed terrorists at six locations? I don't want to sound like I'm trivialising this but with four dead it wasn't really efficient.

Maybe they did it at 8pm because they forgot to turn their clocks back.

Lol no I moved it. If you have an issue you must contact mods privately. End of.
Why bother having a discussion thread.

Erm yes that is my point - there should have been no question over whether or not masks were effective - such guidance should have been ready to go from the start from any disease control agency once a pandemic was declared.

The risks posed by the extreme left:

- women might have a chance at a job and an equitable pay rate
- money may get spent saving the environment instead of handed to fossil fuel companies
- people will have access to health care no matter how rich they are (how disgusting)

Genuinely though, do right wingers think anyone wants 'open borders' and 'full socialism'?
These people dont exist.
