You know what I mean with the Rodman analogy. Strictly a one way player. And...McKenzie is nowhere near as good in what he does as Rodman was in rebounding (pound for pound GOAT, probably 3rd all-time irrespective of size) and defending.

Put Pendlebury and Ablett into our team and we'd be winning games. Take Jordan and Pippen out of the Bulls and Chicago wouldn't have won anything.

Aside from both being defensive, I didn't really get your analogy at all. You said "McKenzie unfortunately is the Dennis Rodman of AFL, strictly defence. C grader at best." You made it sound like Rodman was a c-grader, yet he was an 8 time all defensive player. If the Bulls or Pistons had someone of less defensive skill than Rodman, they may not have had the success they did. We'd be stoked if he was the Dennis Rodman of the AFL. Defence is enormously important. Guys like Ling and Kirk were very important to the successful Geelong and Sydney sides in their roles. Of course, had they been the cornerstone midfielder of those teams then they simply aren't going to win the premierships that they did.

Anyway, my main point was with regard to guessing the ceilings that players have being nigh on impossible to read under the circumstance of such a shambles of a club.

LOL.......you've out done yourself now!

It would've been a lot easier to say he's not as tall as he thought. But no, the hole endeepens...

It is just a comparison, jesus. I'm James Hird-shocked and staggered that you didn't mention that Dennis is black, dates models, and is a foot taller than Jordie.

Ling and Kirk could damage opposition offensively, they weren't just shut-down players. Jordie unfortunately damages Melbourne too often when he has the ball in his hands.

On a side note, without wanting to sound like a real toss, but if ever our players need to take some inspiration into the preseason, they should look no further than big Fitzy.. Guy had to through CFS just to get drafted, plus managed type 1 diabetes and the shock of being diagnosed. He is a ripper Jack and has shown some of our 'silver spoon' boys, just how hard it can be for some people!

If we want to turn things around next year then improvement must come from within, and i think Jack has done this this season under great adversity!! Credit to a guy who looks like a good lad too.

I thought it was a poor comparison.

Ling and Kirk wouldn't damage an opposition in our disfunctional midfield.

Agreed, would also entertain Shane Tuck. Give our young guys a break for a year or two, they've been copping hell.
I wouldn't. I went to school with him, and granted time has passed, but I just wouldn't. BTW - I've actually backed him to tiger supporting friends, but I wouldn't have him at the dees, not when we're trying to clean up our act.

Agreed, tuck has squeezed every bit of his ability and should retire at seasons end. Cross still has what it takes to play on at AFL level.

So reading between the lines, he's not the best off field role model?

If Sub doesn't like him, that's pretty much a tick for Tucky in my book. :thumbsu: :D

I'm not a fan of going after Tuck purely because I think he's past it. What someone thought of him at school, him now being a 31 year old man, is irrelevant.

We should certainly be chasing Cross. Still playing decent footy and whilst the legs might have not have the same run, he can provide much needed support to Jones and Viney in and around the contest, as well as the off field benefits. Must get.

I would just prefer him to not be at the dees. I don't think the work ethic is consistent as it would need to be.

That's the beauty of seeing someone from juniors through to AFL level. Somethings can change, some things don't - work ethic has always been an issue.

Has had a lengthy AFL career - probably a bit of work involved in that?

Jack Watts has been around for a while too.

So has Cale morton.

Craig Bradley and Kev Bartlett have been around for a while but not for a while too.
