Noone outside the club knows how Andrew McQualter is going, nor if Chris wants to coach.
You've been bagging our recycled players (Hampson mainly) and we're not close to a flag, but you wanted us to get an inconsistent 30 year old outside mid...?
An "honest toiler and great team man" is often enough (refer Nick Maxwell and his Premiership cup)...
I think Chris Newman deserves more than, "right he's gone finally, who can come in..."
Chris cannot complain in all fairness
Gifted 240 games at least 100 more than he was expecting
Gifted the captaincy our worst in the clubs history
Gifted a truck load of money for bugger all return
Gifted a final when he was shot
Gifted another year when he was finished

Would you complain if you were in his shoes?
The boy from Beaconsfield is drinking latte's in Toorak rather than milking cattle. We owe Chris nothing.

Have you already forgotten who was before him?

Harsh but mostly fair I guess.. would of earned pretty decent coin considering we needed to pay the minimum salary cap...

Just on the bolded part.. I think people need to get that message .. the Club owes the player nothing.. I quote a lot about Geelong with that due to that respect I have for the club for turning it around.
There was an interview with Bartel where he was asked "when do you know it will be time?". I think it was in reference to the Chapman ect. decision. He recalls a conversation with Tom Harley, who said to him, "The club owes us nothing, they have giving us everything". He mentions that if he felt he was holding a spot from a younger player he would move aside. I don't think that has ever applied at Richmond. It has always been a ME ME ME environment.. and I guess that is the clubs fault.. we don't like that big calls....

Pile of shit. He played some very good football for the Tiges and if he had of played at a better team he would of been remembered in a far better light. There are plenty of over rated players in all sports that happened to play at the right time and place and were lifted to a level they wouldn't have made at another club.

Well, Newman is debatable and we could prob offer the benefit of the doubt.

However, I do believe the club needs to get off its arse and make some hard calls eg. Geelong

RFC needs to change it culture from ME to TEAM. Unfortunately I think due to our recent history a lot of people including coaches have been getting free ride. As such, the standard isnt very high.

In all honesty , out of respect for Chris last year I would of tapped him on the shoulder and given him Andrew Macqualters job.

Then I would of quietly explained to him that if we are being honest and he deserves honesty , we have just free'd up enough money to land Nick Dalsanto .

That's how I would of treated a legend like Chris . But I'll make this clear I've always respected Chris Newman the person but I've never ever thought his football abilities where more than an honest toiler and great team man.
One of our most under-rated players over the years, but his time is coming to an end, he deserves to go out when he feels his time is up, he's stood by us in our darkest times.

No it's not, it's complete bullshit.
Why? no one can give me evidence supporting their argument.
in 240 games i'm staggered that he has left any memories i can recall where he reached greatness.
The only memory of Chris on the field i have is last years geelong game where Smellwood picked him up and dropped him on his head and gave him a nice smile.
Chris picked himself up and started sulking and just walked off.

Greatness as in stardom? Imo not many tigers have done that of late so why individualise him?

Surely this has crossed the bridge from constructive debate to pure trolling?

Newman may not be a Brownlow medalist, but he was one of the few skilled players in our back line for many years, and one of our few credible leaders

Also IMO when he's done, he'll walk - doesn't come across as the type of guy to put himself before the team, and the allegation he has and does is probably more offensive than the rest of the tripe

Imo he is finished, but to now denigrate him is poor form indeed.

and now his form has dropped off out comes a flog like you to pot him, completely ignoring the quality football he's played. I never noticed you rolling out any of this when he was still playing well, seems your observations are made after the fact. So five years ago, which would have accounted for 100 games he should of been delisted? Just showing your ignorance.

its not Chris's fault but he should have walked after the EF ,BUT NO he lined his pockets again. Members costs and at the CLUBs PERFORMANCE expense a liabilty for the whole year
we've known for 4 seasons now but he continues to sign on the dotted line
Come on smell the roses HE WASNT a 3x premiership player that still had the energy of a raging bull when discarded.
he was just an average footballer

You do realise typing in capitals doesn't make what you say any more true?

So now you are saying he's been of no value for 4 years? I'd laugh if I actually thought you believed this. The faux outrage is pretty transparent

No I just leave cap locks on
You need to tell me any level of greatness Chris reached for us in his history let alone 4 years
Before I'm convinced. It's funny we all remembered the Sellwood incident
Chris lost my respect by continuing on. He's been giving us nothing for a while at the cost of someone's spot for big dollars

He provided our back line with its sole decent kick and most of its leadership during that time

You are also deluded if you think he's on big bucks

Finally you constantly use the caps to big note part of your posts - every now and then I get, but doing it constantly reeks of wannabe faux aggression

Whatever you believe kid
You make a trivial point "cap locks on" in what you think is a big issue
makes your point look trivial IMO
I need evidence where Chris reached to great heights compared to the coin he was and still is getting
