Today I have been reading articles about a 1932 murder of 11-month-old Charles Porter. A couple of the articles focus on the police involved, namely Constable Weiss and Sergeant Cook. The infant's father, Edward, was having marital issues with the infant's mother Vera and, as a result, Edward had threatened to harm not only himself, but also their child.
Vera's mother informed Constable Weiss that Edward was up to no good, so the constable went to Edward's house, where he found the infant and him. Edward refused to open the door to the house and the constable's decision to leave the house to make the 250m walk to his house to call the local police station proved to be fatal. By the time Sergeant Cook received the constable's phone call, Edward had poisoned his son and by the time both police returned to the house, 10 minutes had lapsed since the infant was poisoned, which ultimately led to his death.
I'm sure some of you would be well aware of this case, but for those who aren't, I'm sure you will appreciate reading some articles related to the tragedy.
