This is all a little farcical and reeks of double standards.
But that is a sizeable element of the modern society we participate in.

As noted, the media is clearly targeting Collingwood. Jon Ralph in particular is egregiously transparent.
He lauds Shai Bolton's showboating - when even Hardwick pulled him up after the game as well as their senior players
But denounces Ginnivan for showboating and compares him to Weightman who is staging for free kicks and taking himself out of the play as opposed to taking possession of the ball and drawing free kicks. There is a difference.

I imagine inside the club they've got off scott free and everybody's laughing about it. At this point there wouldn't be anybody there who doesn't know the nature/context of that Tik Tok trend. Would've been nice to see the club back their players on this one, but I don't know how they'd expect their response to the De Goey stuff to be seen as sincere if they took a different approach to IQ and JG. That'd be too much nuance for the media to handle!

Complete double standards like this are the norm in gender related politics.
But this is is worse than normal. It truly is just reflective of the weird times we live in and the cancer that the media has become.
They should never have apologized.

The problem are the professional hysterics. They're not necessarily political at all, but will exploit and amplify any issue that will attract eyes to the publication.

They manufacture crises for attention, for the benefit of their employers.

The problem is lazy journalists. Instead of researching and reporting a balanced story. There's no courage to report anything different, it's just the same stories regurgitated from one reporter to the next, and soft targets that won't defend themselves are their bread and butter.

A simple statement from the club would have at least allowed the guys to have some pride for the jumper. Just a statement like "they didn't break any laws, so we've allowed the leadership group to handle the situation", would have given it the attention it deserved.

At some stage, the media must become accountable for their harrassment of soft targets, hopefully it doesn't take a tragedy to teach them a lesson.
