How did George Bailey get to be T20 captain?

His big Bash form was terrible.

It is another Mate's rates special.

He didn't even try anything till the Indians needed 30 runs to win.

His batting is slow and awkward.

Can't bowl a

and he lumbers in the field.

Terrible selection.

Lol @ him being a bad fielder. He does better than a few out there with only the use of his weak arm. No idea why he is in the team but a bad fielder he is not.

Have to agree with this. Its only Twenty20 and to be honest I don't care about this form at all but Steve Smith is a very good player in this form and him not playing is plain stupid. Is it inteferring with his first class games? Can't think of any other reason. Just pick the best leader fromt the best eleven you can chose, not the best leader available and fit in players around him.

Steve Smith is the most perfect T20 player in the world.

But he is yesterdays man (or at least last years).

Which happens very quickly at CA.

Bailey is pretty crap but he's still an upgrade on Cameron White.

CA are in a difficult position. After Clarke, who is the next potential Australian captain? I'm assuming Bailey is being given a shot as T20 captain, as a long-term development opportunity as much as anything else. They'd want to cultivate him as a backup / alternative / successor to Clarke. Although, he's only a year younger than Clarke... so that's a bit of a head scratcher.

U cant be serious about Smith its not like he dominated the BB with the bat.

Best fieldsman in Australia and bats at 120 per 100 balls.

Got two disciplines covered.:thumbsu:

His Leg spin isn't much worse than 70 year old George Boss Hogg.

Terrific captain, great fieldsman, solid batsman.. doesn't bowl.
You forgot the sarcasm smiley. Oh wait, you're serious aren't you?

I fully understand White being dropped (& he should be dropped from the Victorian team until he makes some runs at grade level), but replacing him with Bailey defies logic. It would seem the selectors have chosen Bailey on the same basis Brearley was chosen to captain England. Where this breaks down is that Bailey does not even come close to having Brearley's leadership/tactical nous.

Bailey is probably not in the best 20 T20 cricketers in Australia & with him & Shaun Marsh in the team, we are batting with one hand tied behind our backs. Surely the selectors don't intend to select him for the T20 World Championships.

Whilst I like Bailey as a player, I struggle to see the logic in making him our T20 captain without playing a game. I just think it is a very weird situation considering he isn't a great T20 player and I highly doubt that he would represent Australia in this form of the game if he was not captain.

Go back to last year when our middle order was having a horrid time of it in the Ashes and I

It might help your own ability to put sarcasm smileys behind things if you actually watched some domestic cricket occasionally.

Some of the stuff you post is so seriously naive it defies logic.

If Bailey apparently has so little tactical nous btw, why has Tasmania been such a brilliant team under his leadership?
