Can't keep them all............

Also, about "we can't keep them all". Might be time the whole group sit together and ask themselves "are you prepared to take less for success"?

The ones who came before, our 07,09 and 11 heros all could've easily earned more elsewhere but stuck together for glory.

The outs I'm expecting and would be OK with are Vardy, Clark, Murdoch.

If we can hold onto Kersten then we should, and GHS should get another year but it's make or break time for him.

Frankly I think not offering Clark a new contract when we have yet to re-sign any of Vardy Kersten or Stanley is a bit stupid and especially since the first two are also looking at possible trade options for new homes. I am not saying I think Clark will play in the best 22 again but there is something to be said for depth across each line in a premiership window. If we end up replacing Clark with the other Clarke (the Freo one) as our cheap depth option I will be pretty underwhelmed.

My mail is Clark pushed just as much as the club not to be there next year, lost his passion to play and has no motivation to continue.
Sounds a bit soft to me...

This right here. Could easily flip the thread title.
Can't get rid of them all, voluntarily or otherwise.

Fair to admit that we have a few good quality fringe players. Lang, Kersten, GHS, Murdoch, Smedts, Vardy to name a few. Other guys in the seniors who may have moved down the midfield pecking order, and a couple of younger guys showing some promise. Menzel and McCarthy must be accruing some value. May be a battle to keep them all at the cattery.
Who out of this group is most likely to be poached ? Any whispers? I know there is speculation around Vardy. Could we get some trade value out of someone like Murdoch, who may have run his race.
Just starting a speculative thread to fill the void of the next week or so ;)
I think it's realistic that Lang, Menzel and McCarthy will want to stay. As for the rest of them... well, if you're not getting games, and someone else guarantees you regular AFL football, of course you'll be tempted. However, I can't really see suitors for many of that lot at the moment.

And it wouldn't surprise me if Clark wanted to retire. But I would be pretty annoyed if they didn't have a good contingency plan in the event Vardy goes as well (which I think is fairly likely). We can't go into a season next year with Smith and Stanley as the only frontline rucks in the year, so much of our flag chances in 2013/2014 were lost through a lack of ruck depth, the club has rightly worked well to build depth in this position, now is not the time to weaken it. Which is a longwinded way of saying if Clark and Vardy aren't there next year we better have a decent ruck/kpf coming in during the trade period.

That's a shame about Clark if true. If he could have got back to his best he would have formed an elite 1 2 combo with Tomahawk. After watching the VFL Sunday unfortunately I don't think Vards goes on in the hoops next season. I have love what he brings, but even at his best it has been a tease and over the weekend he could't get near it against weaker competition. So while it pains me, I don't think we lose anything and if we can get something good back for him then it can be a win, win, win for everyone. Murder has hit his peak, so while contracted would be shopped around. GHS, Lang, Kersten & Smedts all stay for me.

An understandable viewpoint but you have to realize that not wanting to ply footy doesnt make someone soft.

I don't want to be a cage fighter but I don't consider myself soft because I won't train for it or dedicate myself to it.

The guy clearly isn't motivated by footy and isn't prepared to dedicate his life to it so what can you do?

Good luck to him in whatever he does with his life.

Vardy was always going to get offered another year regardless the question is whether he wants to take it or wants to request a trade elsewhere. From what I am hearing the latter is the likely outcome. I am a little more confident on Kersten but not by a lot.
I reckon with Kersto - he sees that Clark is done and that Vardy may be going - that opens up chances for him.

I could see him staying with Clark out, Vardy a maybe.

If Menzel has a good finals series then Kersten is gone. He always had good potential but in the end he was always the medium forward for if Menzel never got back up, to me at least. Judging from Kerstens showings in the seniors he just doesn't seem to be able to find form, yet always kills it in the VFL. I think at this point in his career to me that just means that he isn't an AFL player, as much as we all wants him to be.

Horlin-Smith should have stuck with cricket (ok that was pretty cold). He has potential, but again was another member of that club of middle of the road players that just never got it done in the 2013-2015 years where we were trying to rebuild.

Smedt's is done. I don't entirely blame him for that, this one goes on Chris Scott and the MC, they never ever ever ever ever should have sent him down back, it killed his confidence and he will never have that same look about him in a cats jumper.

Vardy deserves the same loyalty that we showed Menz, as frustrating as it is, what if we had let Menzel go in 2014? It feels almost impossible, but sometimes patience pays off.

I still think Smedts can make it as a midfielder due to his size and agility.

GHS gone

Murdoch gone

Vardy gone

Kersten gone

First has to be offered a contract.I think Stanley and Menzel still unsigned will eat up the cap,he'd be playing for peanuts.

On the other hand im guessing you havnt signed a cagefighting contract

We can't lose both clark and Vardy. It gives us Zero key forwards as back up.

Kersten doesn't always kill it in the vfl. Rarely does actually. Had a stinker on the weekend again.

Smedts also dominated the vfl on the weekend in defence.

Stanley isn't signed yet either and is being chased. Menzel and Kersten also not signed. We could be seriously low on key forwards and rucks if the club doesn't get its act together.

Smedts, Murdoch and GHS all already have contracts.

Not sure whether you caught the VFL match but it was the first time in a long time that Murdoch effectively used his pace to spread from congestion. Whilst I don't think he's likely to be a lock in our 22, he's a handy depth player. I'm happy to keep him. Same with Smedts though I think his ceiling is a bit higher than Murdoch's. Would also love to see GHS get a decent run in the AFL next season.

I still think Lang will become a very good player, we must keep him.
Horlin-Smith and Murdoch are contracted, I'd keep them as depth.
Vardy 1 more year hopefully. (especially if Clark is gone)
Smedts also contracted, but if somebody offered to pay out the entirety of his remaining contract, I'd take any pick thrown at us.
