All the thousands of kids with 9 on their back get to keep it and the stupid tradition is gone! Give the 17 to a good kid and scrap the tradition don't even hold it for the next captain to have a choice

seriously though, I'd bench it for 5-10 years. Comes across a tad cheap to be reserved for only the capt one year, and given to a mostly unproven 2-3 year kid the next. Similar to Richo and 12 (for the opposite reason). He wanted 12 back in circulation ASAP so it didn't carry too much a burden for the next kid, I think we need to rest 17 so it will mean something other than being the fish John West rejected for the next kid.
Sure can make 17 his own number wear it for 10 years and create history in it rather than just being the jumper the captain wears no matter what! Dumb tradition thrilled its gone
did anyone notice how cotch forgot about what you call edited video's ie highlights on roar vision? i guess im saying for all those crapping on about how cotch wouldnt forget things in a media interview that lids did and bc of that he's not captain material.silly real silly.

Stupid statement, Cotchin couldnt have made 17 his own with 10 years as captain?
Every number has a legacy, no number is clean. The notion that a player will "make the number their own" is just stupid. Is Rioli having a lesser legacy because he wore 17?
Only dumber argument in this whole thing is people saying he cannot change numbers because merchandise they own.

Kind of feel like Deledio should have been captain. He has been around longer, he has been our best player for ages, he has been so consistent and he is a great leader. He has just been so loyal to the club, I feel like he deserved it. He could have easily been captain for 5ish years and then handed it over to Cotch, now he will not ever get the chance to captain. Seems a bit unfair to him

I would have liked Lids to captain for a couple of years, to allow Cotch to maintain the level of football he showed this year before the added burden of captaincy. That being said, great news for Cotch.

I'm not sure I agree with people saying Lid's is a great leader. When I think of Lid's being a leader I always remember the game where he was captain and Cousins had to grab him by the jumper to lead the team out.
Sorry can't believe some of what I am reading. Cotchin is a once in a generation player the likes we haven't seen at our club for many years. That we've just officially capped him as our captain should earn both him and the club nothing but plaudits.
That we're still arguing about a number or other candidates misses the point.

He's an excellent speaker as well, can string together a few sentences for the media without sounding like a typical footballer. Needs to cut out some um and ahh's and look and obviouslys and he'll be a gun orator too!

Who cares if he forgot something. So everyone is perfect are they. All i know is Cotchin continues to speak well in the media. We could not have anyone better leading us into many successful years to come.

He was lost for words , he wasn't trying to pull a gag and he wasn't able to roll through it .
