NEVER lose sight of the fact, Deliberate, that while it looked ordinary having our captain on the bench for all but one quarter of that grand final, Bruce Monteath was in fact a damn good bloody player in his day.
Will always be remembered for that game, but he played many a fine game for us during his career.

He has copped more than his fair share by us Richmond supporters. Keep in mind that he is in reality a half back flanker not a midfielder. He has been pushed into our midfield because he has a go and our midfield options have been thin before and since he arrived. His performances for Adelaide in ther flags has gone under the radar. Arguably he was their 2nd best player in 97 and I actually thought he was best afield in 98- playing off half back and in negative on ball roles.

He is far from the least skilled player on the list.

He might be having a low year in terms of his disposal and effect on a game, but his leadership is unquestionable.

He took it upon himself at halftime to rally the boys in and give them a talk and then at the end of the game he rallied them up again and instructed them to go to the Punt Rd end and thank fans. That side of his leadership is great...now he just needs to get back to where he was last year. Lets not forget that he won the JD medal last year and he has been playing through injuries this year.

FWIW, i'd love to see another captain. I mean FFS, look at my user name! i was hoping it was Browny the minute he walked in the door and was actually a bit disappointed when Johnson was appointed.

I don't think Johnno is the best captain going around, but he is the captain of the RFC and as long as he has that title i have no other choice but to give him my respect.
