Um...Rd 1 NAB Cup...who cares??
It's the first chance we get to see the boys for the year. Whilst NAB Cup doesn't enthuse some, I'm more than happy to go along and support the boys- This will be the first taste at the big leagues for a number of kids and they'll thrive on the support.

Agree. By February my withdrawal symptoms make me start licking carpet.

I'm def interested in seeing the boys have a kick, but I think it's pretty academic who they select as captain...as someone else put it "for 40 mins!!", not really worth any thought.

That's the thing, the nab cup's about trying new things and giving young guys experience, no? IMO this is the perfect opportunity to give a young future leader like Hurley or Heppell a chance to give orders, direct the team and lead from the front to set an example. If things go well and the team responds to it imagine the effect it could have on their confidence in taking on responsibility when it matters.

Might as well give Hurley a shot since its only the NAB cup and will be a good experience from him. Goddard/Fletcher/Hille/NLM would all be fine choices as well.

If the team photo from last year is anything to go by I'd say it would be Stants.

I mean, the only reason I can fathom for over-looking Goddard is because he's new here. which i put under stupid. making a 10 year player who was about to take over as captain of st kilda vice-captain of essendon isn't the same as putting bryce gibbs in the leadership group straight after getting drafted...

Id like to see them give it to Goddard. I think being new there is a positive, he demands respect from fellow players and if he gets the rest of the boys toeing the line our seasoned players have a fresh brain to work off. Come mid season when a game actually matters and Jobe cant front up for whatever reason, id like to see B.J of had the experience captaining us so he can help lead us into the later part of the year.

Strange argument about Goddard not being Captain for a day.

Judd became captain when he moved from WC to the Blues.
their next best candidate was Nick Stevens though

Nick Stevens is irrelevant - He was a good quality player - Players with leadership qualities step straight into the role.
