Loved the bit at the start of the day when they interviewed one of the little kids who ran out with the players as a mascot.

Asked him whether VB had tried to gee up the boys on the way out.

"Yes, and he SWORE!" the wide eyed youngster said with a huge grin on his face.

Onya VB!

He was a useless, clumsy, no-skill **** for most of the day. Kicked a goal late. That and the emotion of the win might gloss over the fact that he was utter garbage for some, but he still was. Add his cumbersome tackling technique to the long list of weaknesses that make him one of the biggest **** ups in the comp.

He showed us what he does when a season is on the line last week. Today his lottery ping at goal showed us if you throw enough shit at a wall and take the pressure off, some'll stick.

At times this does not bother me so long as the player is made to "earn" his free kick if you get my drift

Got it, yes! That's the best captain's goal you'll ever see my friend. Big Nathan van Berlo with a reflex snap at AAMI Stadium and the crowd's gone wild, the Crows team's gone wild. It's a great day for Adelaide, it's a great day for Australia, it's a great day for the world and it's a great day for the great man, Nathan van Berlo!

Geez, STO. Would ya settle down?

No I won't. **** you, **** the rain, **** Geelong... VB! VB! VB! I love him, I wanna boof him, get him up here!

Too subdued.

Even bassett said it today before the game, said his hands are poor and his kicking is terrible, the only thing going for him is his endurance, but even that is not showing up.
Did he really say that? That's not good?

In short he said to be an midfielder there are 3 things you need endurance good hands and kicking skills and vb has one of those. Words to that effect anyway. He wasnt complimentary on his skills only on his training which is a pretty common view point from the public anyway.

VB's last quarter reminded me of his final quarter in 2010 up in Brisbane when he was acting captain. Still going near 100% as others are tiring. In fact the last two weeks his second halves have been far better than his first.

As talked about earlier this season, I'm keen to see VB settle into one role. He's tagged inside mids, he's tagged outside mids - often swapping to whoever is 'hot' at the time. He's had a run across half back and even tried to do a job as a defensive half forward. He's basically been moving around on a needs basis.

The 'jack of all trades' role is a difficult one. The only players who can seamlessly move from position to position and between roles in a game without it affecting their performance are the super talented players - the Hirds, Jarmans. Occasionally players can do it as a once-off and get some success when swung into a new role. But usually this is a short term impact and their form is affected. Hard to display consistent form when you aren't playing a consistent role.

It's time for us to put VB first for a change. Use him in his best role and keep him there. Not use him as the 'floater' to fill whatever role is open or we need some cover.

Worrying that this is the first thing your value system told you to do.

What Bassett said first was that VB is "not a naturally skilled player". I think that's a fair description from Bass. Even VB himself would admit that he doesnt have the kick of Vince or hands or marking power of say Vince, who still isn't in the top echelon either (well not for all 3, his kicking is mighty handy let me tell you).
Then Bass went on to explain VB's strengths, his discipline, work ethic, running ability, desire to learn and ability to get the most out of himself from doing all the abovementioned. All that's a fair call if you ask me, good to have someone just call it as it is.

Did lead the clearance stats on the weekend.

Sacrifices his game for the team week in week out.

Not our best, but definitely in the 22 when in form, and when not in form obviously has the credits and leadership ability to keep him in the team.

i like this guy, but he really didnt have a great game, he had an OK game. We're all so used to his ineptitude that when he plays half decently, we are delighted with him.

yes, he did some good clearance work, laid some nice tackles and had a few good I50's. And yes, he obviously kicked a crucial late goal, but...

he also had the most frees against on the day

...and the 2nd worst disposal efficiency (50%)

...and the least marks

...and twice as many clangers as anyone else

im not saying his game was terrible, but it wasn't great by any means, and it's probably his best game for the year.

right you are, point?

we had 20 frees against, 5 were van berlo's
Because you listed frees and clangers as though they were two different criticisms of his game

I honestly didn't mind a couple he gave away making sure Selwood knew he was going to have to earn every possession.
Although I was very frustrated with a few times how easy it was for Selwood to shake his tackle and run off and be very damaging.
