The captain sure doesn't have to be the best player. But has to led by example. And has to play every week the best he can and spark up the team if were down.

Doesn't have to be the best player, but should be in the best 10.

Doesn't fit that brief, soften it a bit?

Doesn't have to be the best player, but should be good enough that his form actually warrants a spot in the side.

Still nope.

Wright, Thompson, Jaensch, Jenkins, Talia.. Otten was nowhere near as bad as his haters (AKA the Sam Shaw fan club) would have you believe. Jacobs gave us nothing.

VB at the very least restricted the effectiveness of the players he was on - a comparison of their performances during the time he was on them, vs the time when he wasn't, is very telling. Both Swan & Pendles were 50% better without VB in their back pockets.
Restricted the effectiveness of the players he was on? Rubbish.

Rob shirley must be shaking his head. He was delisted and was twice the tagger vb is and didn't butcher the ball anywhere near as much. I don't blame the players, but the culture of our club is demonesque.

VERY quote worthy. Shirleys 15 touch games were actually useful and didnt create goals for the opposition. He held some serious gun midfielders in his time

Them's the facts.. like it or lump it. By any statistical measure (both SC & DT agree), Pendles & Swan were both 50% better when VB wasn't on them than they were when he was in their back pockets.

Isnt the fact that Pendles had 19 possessions on VB the fact you should accept which shows Pendles smashed him? Yes he played even better in the second half but that doesn't discount the fact he easily beat VB in the first. Just keep repeating 19 possessions and you might understand that is a bloody good half of football.

Garbage.. he wasn't even remotely close to our worst last night.
What is your definition of close - he was in the worst five at least. He had a stinker -turned the ball over, put teammates under the pump, gave away frees -he is extremely lucky to be making our 22 at the moment as he provides very little.

they were were about 300% more effective than expected when working against a hard tag from the oppositions captain. see vader, 80% of stats are meaningless and 90% of people know that.

decent logic ec, but 19 touches doesn't compare to the 20 touches he might have gotten without the vb 'hard tag'.

This time next year VB will struggle to make it in our best team. In fact he won't.

Worst captain ever at the AFC.

sadly for him, he's the poster child for the 'promote from within' culture. I was a huge fan when he came across, but our club stinks right now and he stinks just as much as the rest of it. I can handle the selection of underperforming senior players, but I draw the line at the captain. that person has a greater responsibility.

apologies to vb for lumping him in with the administration/board, but the very reason that he is supported as captain is a function of the overall issues within 'our' club.

to add to that, not that anyone cares, he's reminding me more and more of cassisi's last year or so. a club who has a captain that struggles to earn their spot in the 22 on form will go nowhere. luckily for us, we are out of the race so we can blood players. but it's also lucky for vb because he won't get dropped as we are out of the race. so he retains his spot for the duration. would be nice if sando had a hard bone in his body.

He wasn't in our worst 5 players - Wright, Jaensch, Jenkins, Thompson, Mackay and Talia were all worse.

Quoting fantasy football stats says it all really.
They provide a quantifiable method of measuring a player's performance. To that extent they're a means to an end.

Feel free to watch the game with both eyes open and tell me that Pendles' 2nd half performance wasn't 50% better than his 1st half.

Wright was subbed for Jaensch so they basically count as 1 -and I agree they were both bad, Thompson was horrid but then comes VB - Jenkins a close fifth. Mackay and Talia were both better than the super runner.

And even going on your count was VB next, so seventh worst??

7th worst sounds about right. Still leaves 1/3 of the team as being worse than him.. in what was easily his worst game in well over a month.
