Pretty weak argument given your usual standards. Interstate supporters don't know shit about the Crows. The only Crows players known outside of SA are Dangerfield and Sloane.

My guess is that those outside of the club - in the absence of seeing most of his games - assume that he can and does consistently perform at or above an acceptable level each week, simply because he is the Captain. Particularly given that for most clubs, this is the primary quality they look for in the on field leader, as distinct from how sensible your hair is and how fit you are, which seems to form the basis of our essential criteria.
 
suppose nic nat is first ruck. he's had a super year from what I remember of him last year. haven't seen an eagles game, but I bet he's torching gold coast right now.

on vb. he won't be captain next year and he'll be lucky to play an afl game in 2015. he'll be subject to dropping next year and although we don't move quick, if is form is similar to his early season effort, he'll find himself in the sanfl.

More likely to be because they don't have the blinkered view that the Adelaide fans here have come to develop in the last few months. Those who watch with both eyes open are bound to see what gets missed by those who watch with one eye closed.

I believe I already answered that question, when I stated that Ralph must be on the wacky weed.

Each week there are roughly 400 players playing in the AFL (18 clubs x 22 players). VB would probably rank somewhere in the 150-200 range (yes, that's completely arbitrary). He's nowhere near as bad as many posters on this board would believe, nor is he anywhere near the top-30 where the AA selections are drawn from.

I just love reactions like these. I can't remember the last time a journalist said something positive about one of our players and was attacked this venemously. It's almost like I'm living in a parallel universe.. No, wait, there's a constant..

I thought it was "journalist says positive thing about Crows" and they're "the best journalist outside SA, one of the few who actually watches the Crows"; "journalist says something bad about Crows" and they're "a journalist who knows nothing and never watches one of our games". Now I see that the constant is not "journalist says something positive", but "journalist says something that the MOB agrees with".

Gee.. I wonder if the journalist might actually watch Footy games - like he's paid to do? Not only that, he probably watches games from all 18 clubs and doesn't approach them with the blinkered (and jaundiced view) of the dedicated supporter. This allows him to make valid judgements from a neutral perspective, rather than the blinkered view of someone who is arguably too close to the subject matter to be objective. It's perhaps not unusual then that his conclusions differ from those with the blinkered and more than slightly myopic view of the situation.
 
I reckon they will give Dangerfield one more year to develop his game without the added burden of the Captaincy.

Don't get me wrong, he's going to be a great captain, but if you want a "lead from the front captain" he needs more experience breaking taggers. No point being a "lead from the front" type captain if he is quiet everytime he gets tagged, which is the reputation he is trying to shake. He needs to break the shackles from this.

It wouldn't be a viewed as a burden (verb) but it is and extra thing on top (noun). You can see games now where Danger tries to lift the whole team on his shoulders. It happened in the Richmond game, where he had an open option closer to goal, he went for the shot and missed. A lead from the front captain needs to include his troops. It's not a criticism because a player has to back themselves at times but there are aspects of his game that will develop with maturity..... that maturity will make him a better captain.

That being said if there is a change and the playing group embrace it I'm not going to criticise it because the Captain is for the playing group not the fans.

He may not be captain next year (though I would expect him to be) but I doubt very much he'll be playing SANFL footy in 2015.

you think he'll retire off the back of half a dozen sanfl games in 2014 stabby?

btw, i'm running a vader veneration factual statement program on this. personally, I think there's a bit of water to flow under the bridge and I doubt anyone can comfortably state what will happen in 4 weeks let alone the following 2-3 years. vader is the exception though, so I figure I might as well provide appropriate reverence to vader's certainty, but apply it to the other side of the discussion.

the coaches have put tambling on ice in prep for 2014, not a doubt about his future at the club during his entire tenure here, his 3 year contract was proof of that. However, vb is in the team to see if he still has a place going forward. with the tippet money available, the club is considering paying out his contract while we have the cap space. he has 3 weeks to get his shit together.
