Captain wanted

Yeah agree re the possible replacements mate.
Jones is actually pretty articulate. Can sound a bit slow off the mark but speaks fairly honestly and pretty well to be honest.
Jack nowhere near as good in front of the mic but honestly, who even cares. They've both been able to lead by example on field and provided he can stay fit, Viney is the obvious replacement

I wouldn't say Jones was exactly articulate, he fumbles a bit, but what he has to say is always worthwhile. And the bloke is as honest as the day is long.

Captain found. Kicked a goal at the start of the last when we really needed it. Massive 50/50 ball against Duncan (the slide was a free kick) but Jonesy just wanted the ball more.

Consensus on this now we're halfway through the season?

Jones will probably give it up at the end of this season to focus on getting more out of himself in his last couple of years. But is Viney really the captain the club needs going forward? He's objectively our fourth best inside mid - a position that only allows three starters - but the only one who can't rest anywhere else on the ground.

Objectively in what sense?

You don’t pick a captain because he is or isn’t the best player, or in vineys case is seen as the 4th best mid. Does that mean Oliver should be captain?

I think next year it’ll be Viney as lone captain. I’ll be interested to see how he goes and if he steps up further when stepping out of Jones shadow. Also a full pre season will help if he gets one. Could really lead the way on the track and not in the rehab group.

Gawn should be our captain end of. Viney is doing alright bur dumb as * infront of a mic. Jones needs to worry about his footy. Gawn does and speaks infront of the mic beautifully sells the club like a sweethwart

What's the point of a captain in AFL? Its purely a ceremonial position. Makes a difference in cricket where the role actually entails making decisions, but I don't get what the fuss is about here.

All participating players on the day to be named as co-captains. This will greatly enhance pointless gesturing, arm waving and finger pointing. It also means anyone who happens to play well on any given day can be "leading from the front" and playing a "captains game"

Captains need to be good communicators. They need to understand the gameplan/set ups so they direct their team mates into the right positions. I don't understand how Viney can do this when he can barely string a sentence together.

It might be nice to have someone on the ground reminding our players that bombing it into 50 doesn't work.

+1 Gawn captain. Great in the media, leads by example on the field.

They've become more important since runners were restricted. You can tell which teams are disorganised.

Its not the captain's job to organise the team, its everyone's' job. If a player sees an opposition player unmarked in a dangerous position, should they say something or keep schtum because they're not the skipper?

The captain's job is to toss the coin and to get lumped with more media responsibilities. Means bo diddley once the players are on the park.
