Next Richmond Captain?

Should they have to wear No.17 ?

I'll give you a serious answer,
Deledio and Yes - Jack Dyer was the greatest player your club ever had, his legacy should be continued. IMO it gives young players who arrive at the club a greater appreciation of the clubs history

It would be out of Polo, Deledio and Raines.

I think it would be a great tradition to kepp going if the next captian got the No.17 as Jack Dyer was undoubtedly our most courages and porbably our best player, the reasons for naming one of the three above as captain would be as follows:

Polo: He's in the mold of Kane Johnson as a player, with courage and absolute gun talent.

Raines: Great story to get to the club in being picked up with one of our last picks and has come on so wonderfully.

Deledio: Would be too good of a player to not have in the side and the only way of making sure he would stay would by offering him the captaincy, not that he wouldn't deserve it anyway.

Most likely would probably be Deledio.

They won't get rid of something they started as a traditional thing only a few years ago. So the next captain will wear 17 and so will they all forever and ever. I think Chris Newman would make a great captain. I like the quiet, back pocket, first man picked, never play a bad game types.:p

Deledio suits his number 3 very well IMO just does.

Its up to who ever is captain it should not be forced upon a player
Are you seriously a Richmond supporter? Saying that #17 should not be forced upon a player is a ridiculous statement. The club is establishing a great tradition in memory of Jack Dyer. I'm sure any player would be honoured to wear the famous #17 and if he wasn't he shouldn't be captain or even at the club. As for the next captain, Coughlan by a mile, has a heart the colour of yellow and black and the qualities of a leader i.e he's as tough as nails just like Captain Blood.

Spot on about Cogs, but Sugar is still our captain and he aint going nowhere yet, so this is really a pointless thread.

Next Richmond captain, for me, is Coughlan. Newy just behind him.

Polo, Deledio, Raines - too young.

I also think that the great #17 should be the captains number. Just read DyerBolical's post. Hit the nail on the head.

I like Chris Newman aswell, but maybe as a vice captain. He is 1 of if not the he most courages player at tigerland (along with Cogs, Hyde) now that kellaway has left. Although you don't get many captains that play backpocket (sometimes back flank) because they can't direct the traffic aswell

Cogs is the obvious choice, but i think Petts would also be a good choice. I saw an interview after maybe the Geelong win this year and he was really talking the club up and how its going places - very inspirational. He would also be a great leader as he seen the highs and the lows

Don't know if Petts has the right mindset for a captains job, and the fact he shows his emotions when kicking or missing goals has been seen as a bad thing by many people.

I know Newman is a great person too, who could handle the role very easily. He gives his time to a lot of charity/ social work, organises other Richmond players in these types of roles and is generally a very solid citizen. Very well respected by the player group for this reason, in addition to the way he conducts himself on the ground. I don't know as much about some of the other youngsters but I think Delidio, Coughlan, Raines, Polo all come across as good types for the role in a few years time.
Must be said that I also think Kane Johnson is doing a great job, his sacrifice of his natural playing style for the team last season was outstanding and he also is very well respected amongst the players.

i think ur next captain should be joel bowden...
the respect the players have for him is incredible..
he shows great leadership skills around that club and should be rewarded for it

The only problem is, is that he is 28 years old as is Kane Johnson so by the time Johnson has retired Bowden might be looking at retiring as well, if he already hasn't.

how about you brisbane ***** pissoff

in all honesty i reckon greg tivendale should be captain, just a true leader amongst men and one of the inspirations around the club

never misses a game and his 6th in the b&f this year is testament to his consistancy

truly remarkable player who in years to come i will be lucky enough to say saw him live

Thats a joke post right.

I would love Newman to become captain and start playing off a flank or even in the middle hes just a great guy and great player

As for petts its great he shows emotion its so good when you no a player in genuinly Annoyed abotu something that happened its better then someone who shows no emotion at all i dont think he should be captain good player maybe a vice and stand in captain when the real captain is our injured

Or we coudl have joint captains like the swans so there can be directions from captains each part of the field have a back and midfielder and a forward all being captain would work i say Newman, Cogs and Petts maybe dont no who coudl be from the forwardline
