Green put on too much weight in the off season, his mobility has really been down.

I agree about the mobility - he has certainly lost a step or two. But he is still smart enough to play deep forward as he is generally good for a few goals a game. If only Bailey would simply leave him there...

One of the main things that frustrates me about brad is that he cannot handle a tackle. As soon as a finger is layed on him he coffs up the football. This makes me question his leadership as when i think of a captain, i think of a strong, mentally tough footballer who leads by example. Beamer would have been my option for captain.

People realise he did the right thing with the Sylvia goal right?

There were players around him and he was running back with the flight, you have to make sure that it's going to be a goal because you're unaware of where the players around you exactly are.

It may look selfish but it was exactly what he should have done.

Complete overreaction. What if he went to let the ball go through for a goal and the Hawks player on his tail pushed him into the ball, causing a rushed behind? The mark was the safest option. These are professional footballers, not kids in the park looking just for goals. Give him a break, he played fine.

And I'm with you RandB, Mahoney is no forward coach. Our forward line is completely dysfunctional. Every time we kick a goal it has to be conjured up, there is no system whatsoever. If he is retained next season we are not serious about becoming a successful club.
Why on earth would Mahoney be considered for the position in the first place?
Mahoney is Baileys mate from Port, those to will cling to the sinking ship to the very end.

I believe it's personality. I think a few things I've read have said he was always into coaching and development. Played a bit of a leadership role wherever he played, even if he didn't really have the skills, he was always trying to help others. As jtr alluded to, Bailey probably had his eye on him fron the Port days. Thing is, there's no forward structure and no entering 50 technique to our gameplan, so I doubt he'll be there next year.

Perhaps co-captains next year could be an option between Moloney and Trengove?
I've been trying to work out how to get around the problem of Green probably still having another year of AFL left but the captaincy clearly being a drag. It'd be a bad look if we took it off him after one year, an admission that we got it wrong. This is a really good idea, though: gives youngsters a chance to experiance the pressure, gives us a look at the leadership potential of players going forward and allows us and Greeny to save face. I like it.

Short answer: No

Long Answer: No

Co-captains is a stupid set-up and an unnecessary one at that, hell I don't believe in captains in football full stop but that's another story.

You don't give the captaincy in any shape or form to a player who will be entering their 3rd year, just a burden Trengove won't need at that stage of his career.

Green is the worst Captain the MFC has had in the last 30 years.

Captains show leadership, toughness, courage, unity, inspire the players around them and are hard working.

Look at the captains that come before him: MacDonald, Neitz, Viney, Lyon, Healy and Flower were all genuine leaders and had all of the above. Green has none. No amount of jumper pulling and thumping of his heart will make Green any where near the calibre of captain or player as those that came before him.

How he became Captain, before Moloney has got me ****ed and shows how far off the mark this club is at the moment as it strives to win another premiership. Moloney should be Captain!!

Keep believing that.

If he didn't know he could have shepherded it through then I'm really worried about his vision.

Oh and Sylvia should have past to the guy 30m out all alone by himself.

Why take the chance when we could have the sure thing? It was the right move but by all means keep crying over spilled milk.

How everyone has changed their tune to such an extent over the last six months is beyond me.

Almost everyone to a man wanted him captain during the off season & now hes the worst captain ever?

I, although being annoyed yesterday with him, have moved past it & will support him throughout the season. I think hes man enough to say if the job is too much for him.

I captained my cricket team in under 15's, we didn't lose a game all season until we got smashed in the grand final. I might need to be shot too.

Yep, you're damn right. In addition, I'm unsure how all you people can be so sure that Green didn't have a 1% element of doubt as to exactly where he was running?

Because that's all he needs to justify marking that kick.

Leave him with it til season's end, the year is virtually done and dusted yesterday, we'll need to pull one out of our arse against Carltank to have a chance at finals.

Next year, give it to Trengove. It's either him or Beamer, but I'd love for them to make the leap and give it to JT and make him a seriously long-term captain a la Neitz.

You wont find me in that category. Said Moloney all along.

And definately worst captain in the last 30 years. Unless someone would like to dispute it...

Agree.

I cant remember a worse captain in my time.

Bruise free captain is an embarrasment.

I hold the playing group just as much as anyone else to blame for this. They get the opportunity to vote for who they want as captain and it went to Green. At the time it was a good decision as his last 2-3 years had been terrific, especially in light of the football we played. In hindsight we should have let him play out his career without that pressure and had Moloney on board as captain.

But yes, compared to the captains we've had since the 80's, he is dead last in the "best" captain category.

They voted for the top 3 candidates, the big cheeses decided between Green, Davey and Moloney.

I was kinda hoping Davey would get it given it would be fantastic for our indigenous flock and he's been a great player, but I'm happy to admit I'm glad I was wrong.

I think why most people have changed their tune is because Green isn't playing the way he was this year from last. I've always thought he was a bit soft and doesn't go in hard. It seems he only plays well (this year) when his name is brought through the mud but really he should be playing well week in week out and showing passion.

I feel we don't have any good leaders, when Ricky Bobby did that brilliant smother I watched the players after it and no one went up to him with any passion, it was just a simply pat on the back. I would have loved to have seen them run up to him and give a few high five's and then jog over to the quarter time break. Instead they just walked over, gave a little tap and that was it. Body language is EVERYTHING!

^^^ This.

After that smother i did not see one person go over to Ricky. I feel sorry for the guy as he tries his best and for little or no reward. You can see that he gets frustrated. Wouldn't be suprised if he goes back to the seconds this week with the way this club goes about things after a loss.
