Saw the interview on 'on the couch'. Was embarrasing for green. Especially his comments re scullys injured knee. Initially saying that it was the knee injury he brought to the club then in the same breath stated it was just bruising.

Greens 'lurking' around the packs was hideous on sunday. The football world doesnt rate the melbourne football club because when they think of them they think of the image of brad green waiting at the back of a pack for a cheap goal.

Trengrove must be made captain

Green should step down as captain and make way for a new, younger and tougher player like JT or give it to Moloney. Green has been a great player over the years but i think his time is up. He had his chances to show us his leadership and clearly stuffed up

Green can't be captain next year, I'm not sure what has happened to him this year. Last year he was running back with the flight, taking contested marks.

I honestly thought he was one of our most courageous players last year.

This year it isn't existent.

He can't be captain next year, he also is a very poor media performer. Young guys like Watts, Trengove and Grimes all seem much more comfortable in front of a camera then Brad does.

Moloney to captain next year IMO.

Agree.

I cant remember a worse captain in my time.

Bruise free captain is an embarrasment.

The fickleness of some of our supporters is embarrassing.

Green may be a bit out of form but he isn't playing bruise free football.

I was always gunning for Moloney but Green is our captain and we should get behind him, not try to bite his head off when he misses a shepherd (maybe Martin should have handballed to him since Green is a much better kick?) and kicks a couple of cheapies.

^^^ This.

After that smother i did not see one person go over to Ricky. I feel sorry for the guy as he tries his best and for little or no reward. You can see that he gets frustrated. Wouldn't be suprised if he goes back to the seconds this week with the way this club goes about things after a loss.

I think Ricky going back to Casey was the best thing for him, he has come back a new and better player. His efforts and attitude are amazing so I give the coaching staff credit for that, hopefully Cale can draw confidence from this.

In 2013! I don't think the club will want to ask Green to step down after just 1 year as captain. How many years has Green got left on his contract? That could determine how long he has left as captain.

Green has been out of form for most of the year. I can only remember him playing well in a couple of games. The captaincy hasn't sat well with him for some reason. I thought he would have been a solid captain, but it seems to have affected his game this year. Moloney is a ready replacement when the time is right. No need to jump the gun just yet. We also have Grimes, Trengove and Watts who could potentially fill that role. Give him another season and then assess at the end of next year as to where he is at as a footballer, and as a captain.

Agree that Brad was put his head over the ball plenty of times.

I believe, however, that he is playing 'impactless' football at times. Age & weariness are catching up with Brad. I hope like hell he stands down in 2012 as captain

I'd prefer to hope like hell he can turn it around and have another year like 2010, personally.

Moloney won't be made captain next year, the club made too much of a fuss earlier on about the nightclub incident.

I hope JT won't be, imagine becoming the leader of the most prestigous club in all the lands, in your 3rd year. He'd probably do what our current has done this year, and just fail under the massive burden.

Scully is in the same boat as JT, if he's still at the club next year.

Colin Sylvia is, in my opinion, the perfect option for a short-term captain(I'm thinking 3-4 years, after which either JT or Tom Scully can take over).

Jack Watts is just the same as JT and Tom Scully.

Davey's too injury-prone, and even when he recovers, won't be guaranteed a spot from what I've heard(Just rumours).

Jack Grimes is similar to Sylvia.

Brad Green, last year showed the signs of a great captain. Not totally sure where they've gone, but they have.

Mark Jamar should certainly be considered as captain next year aswell.

1. Colin Sylvia
2. Jack Grimes
3. Brent Moloney
4. Jack Trengove
5. Mark Jamar
6. Tom Scully
7. Jack Watts
8. Brad Green
9. Aaron Davey

Those are the guys who I think should be considered as captain next year, in that order.

Maybe do what Sydney did a few years ago and have 3 captains, JT/Moloney, Grimes/Scully and Green/Sylvia?

Or something like that, avoids saying that we were wrong choosing Greeny as our captain and yet still gives us effectively a new captain.

This. As soon as he has a good game everyone will be back to normal, loving Greeny.

He hasn't had the best of years but not a terrible year either. Not quite willing to write him off yet. But then everyone says that is accepting mediocrity

He's in a no win situation though.

Early in the year, culminating in the West Coast game, he was playing almost entirely as a forward and receiving very little delivery, let alone quality delivery. People here complained that he wasn't going up the ground to help out.

After the West Coast game he moved to a wing and started getting more touches but people said he was just getting cheapies.

In recent weeks he has found a role somehwere in between, which I think suits him. He doesn't have the greatest midfield/wingman brain, in my opinion, and that results him often being out of position. I sincerely doubt this is due to a lack of effort, more a lack of awareness. He's much better reading the play as a forward.

His ideal role is as a half forward, as much as that position still exists today, who delivers the ball inside 50 as much as he receives it. But hey, if he's not take Jonathan Brown esque marks every week then he's soft yeah guys?

yea but does it suit the team, i no he would always try, but imo he just isnt having enough of an impact.. he is being carried in the side , he doesnt add enough in the middle and he really apart from being a smart leader isnt a great marker or anything to be a permanent forward.. if he plays on next year he is taking a spot off howe/cook

I thought that Green was a very good marker for someone his size. We are far from being overloaded with quality forwards.

Green is best when he is playing full forward, I don't like when he has a run in the middle as he doesn't have much impact on the game like he can up forward.

Personally, I don't think he's soft or having a bad year. I'm just dissapointed about the way that he's gona about having the title of captain, as you'll see by the thread title.

He's as tough as many captains, but captaincy is about bieng tough and selfless first and foremost IMO. He's not selfless. His work in the media has also been dissapointing, but again, that's not entirely his fault.

Still think he's a good player, more lamenting that I'd prefer Beamer or even Russian. Anyway, i know emotion flooded the OP, but these are my actual thoughts.

The solar panel ad makes me cringe.

0 possessions, 1 FA in the first quarter against Geelong.

Moloney, the other captain choice... no possesions either.

I have always liked Brad Green and I feel sorry for him, because I have no doubt he's trying hard and would be hating how 2011 has been going for him... but he has to resign as captain. This week. If Bailey goes, Brad has to as well. No bones about it.

Give it to Moloney!! Oh wait.

I'd be inclined to have Jordie McKenzie as care-taker captain. Frawley would be another option.

You can't have your captain and vice captain getting one handball between them in a half of footy. It's downright embarrassing.

Trengove has to captain this club next year. I don't care if it destroys him personally but we can't be led by Green, Davey, Moloney or Rivers. Jones isn't good enough and Grimes is injured too often.

We've got way too many soft players (Martin, Bennell, Morton, Jurrah, Maric even Garland has soft moments) but we can't have one as captain.
