Well in the long run, who would you guys reckon would be the best captain for Hawthorn. The inspiration Luke Hodge or the smooth-talking Sammy Mitchell. We know both players are guns im sure either would do a great job, but any thoughts who AC (or if there happens to be another coaching staff then - please, no!) will appoint as captain after Vandenberg.

My pick, Mitchell. Hodge is a great player as it stands and I wouldn't want captaincy to get in the way of the way he plays footy. But thats just me. :thumbsu:

Your thoughts?

Hodge for mine.
He is a midfield general, was recruited because of his leadership capabilites, and the way he attacks the pill. Leads from the front and is a matchwinner.
Nothing against mitch of course, but hodgey is my pick.
Incidentally, i wouldn't mind if they were both named dual captains next year.

Have to go with Mitchell on this one. He's very mature and level headed. Has an excellent eye for the flow of the game and above all he has an excellent relationship with his fellow players and I think would be a great ambassador for the club in regards to media & corporate requirements given his immaculate personal record.

Tough one. If I had to choose one right now, to take over immediately, I'd take Mitchell comfortably.

Hodge is probably the better player at the moment, but Mitchell is right on top of his game, and has ironed out all the loose ends, and is becoming a true professional off the field.

Hodge still has some improvements (which is scary) to make in his game. He's probably the premier midfielder at the moment, but you feel he is still developing on and off the field, and it'd be premature to make him captain now.

Having said that the poll was for 2008 which makes it a tough prediction. If there ever was a case for taking the soft option and making co-captains this would be it cause either would be a fine choice.

But I think Hodge was always destined to captain his club, so I think once he becomes more comfortable off the field, he'll develop into the role.

I'd to see Mitchell get the opportunity at some stage though.

(Yes I am sitting on the fence)

Sammy, until Hodgey has a couple of brownlows in the bank.
If I were to take that seriously :p, suppose we do appoint Sammy and then hand it over to Hodge after a couple of years. I reckon that would tick of Sammy (and any other Captain for that matter). Wouldn't you say?

Thoughts?

Tough call if I had to choose between the two of those. Hodge because he can pull something miraculous from nothing, but Mitchell because he'll go in hard everytime and come out with the ball.

Either or! But Hodgy... He has that added touch of class on mitchell which would be polished nicely by recieving the role of skipper!

Have voted for Mitch, only because I think atm he is better at covering issues both on and off the field.

However, would be more than happy if we went with joint captains in both Mitch and Hodgey.
