I have a bit of a thing about Swedish cars, owning Saabs and Volvos. My current car is a Volvo S-60 R Design. Its a great car and the new Volvo's have a lot more power than they ever used to. I'm ready for all the Volvo driver jokes! This is my car.

I just Googled it for my own interest.

272 kW twin turbo V6, RWD. Was not expecting that. About $50k drive away for the top spec model.

Not in the market (nor do I have $50k in the sofa) but I might take one for a test drive.

RWD? That's a tick. Obviously know their market better than whatever Holden's are going for.

the engine can be tuned to get more power, can get it up to about 340kw with the right mods

I made a mistake, Carsales has some listed for $67k so you can get a pricier version. Still, sounds like a bit of fun to drive. FWD sucks.

The 330S is the cheapest version with the TTV6. You can get one of them for $55k (prob a touch less) and it goes up from there to the 330Si and the GT.

A GT with all the fruit will be $65k+

You can find a used one for about $45k at the moment.

I'm a mechanic. I can vouch for the Australian stuff being generally rubbish. The drivetrains can cop a fair bit of punishment but that's because they're so big and agricultural.

I wish modern cars were as easy to service as old Holdens.

What's that? The water pump is shot. No problem, give me one spanner and 5 minutes. If you undid the sump plug on a red/blue 6 you could replace all 6 plugs by the time the oil completely finished draining.
Damn straight. When the end of times arrive, these are the vehicles that will be worth the most.

Here's a stat for you. VL Commodore (first "high tech" engine) would get 11.3L per 100km. A VE Commodore, 10.9L per 100km.
20 years difference.

There's also 500kg difference

My VY shows an average of about 12L per 100.

VL also didn't use a Holden motor anyway.

I don't know what my 253 goes through as no computer to tell me, but it feels like a surprisingly low amount. Never much to refill at the bowser before it's full.

Everyone refers to old cars as being heavy, which often makes me laugh. My old Premier (1971) weighed less than a VW Golf. Handled slightly different though.

1973 Premier here!

Handles like a VW.

Anyone have an "achievable" dream car? Or already own it?

I'd quite like an EK Holden. There aren't many around but they don't seem to be as popular as some models.

My idea of a 'dream' car like that is something that is restored and driveable. It would be cool to own an A9X Torana or Phase 3 Falcon etc. but you'd be too scared to let it out from under lock and key so it would be a waste. If I owned one of those I'd want it in a motor museum.

This is $37.5k: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Holden-EK-1961/SSE-AD-6124030/?Cr=3

That's just cool. You could drive that around and people would come up and ask about it etc. and at the same time if it got wet or a stone chip you wouldn't feel like you've risking your life savings.

I posted a photo on Facebook a few years ago about wanting the new Volkswagen Scirocco R while I was waiting to get my oil topped up at a dealership. Told everyone who asked about it. Achieved it three or four years later, bought it ex-demo for $47k.

It changes things, because you no longer view it as an appliance but as a part of you. It's definitely a part of me, complete with kerb rash on a couple of rims, the marks on the roof when I accidentally closed my garage door on it, and the recent huge scratch when I got a bit too close to my own garage pillar. Service and parts are expensive but it's all worth it when I can unleash it. It also stands out from the rest of the VW range, looks wise, and there aren't many on the road and it's easy to find my car in a parking lot because of it.

Anyway, I know it sounds like I have an emotional attachment to my car like Thor to his hammer but money well spent. Don't think I'll ever change my car even if I find myself able to somehow afford a Ferrari.

Crazy how much these are getting up in price. Will is stop? Will this be a 100k car in 50 years? They are cool though. For me it'd be a two door Falcon, the HK/T/G Monaro is the day dreamer type of car but something like this https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/Ford-Falcon-1966/SSE-AD-5707440/?Cr=58 would be cool.

As for modern, a late 2000's Porsche Cayman S is the car I'm next into.
