Where am I saying break the suppression order?

I'm saying we just say "he's no longer our patron" .that's it

Why would you do that? Implies strongly we think he’s guilty. You don’t strip patronage from someone for no reason. People aren’t dummies.

Richmond football club has today announced the removal of pell from his roles at the Richmond football club

Done easy doesn't affect any suppression orders or any trials.

He's pretty old and sick though so maybe you guys will be happy when he's dead and it's easy to do. Even then someone will go on about respecting the dead.

That’s just spin for why you’re doing it. Doing it for indirect reasons can be just as powerful a message as doing it for direct reasons.

Let the club handle it. They know more about it than anyone else.

Pope did it, good enough for him, good enough for us

It was poor from the club not to have already put an end to this a long time ago, but sitting on their hands now is incredibly weak and pathetic.

He is guilty though*.

*apparently

^^This. People are getting incredibly carried away with the importance of the club thinking that will prejudice the case. If his employer (and previously biggest supporter) have ditched him, then what nothing anyone else does is relevant.

Laws of the land don’t apply to The Vatican.

Agree should never have been a patron in the first place. Club completely asleep at the wheel. Now the horse has bolted they have to deal with it. I trust they will appropriately under this management

As they so often try to demonstrate...

The horse has hardly bolted, the club are free to just add a new patron for 'outgoing' one George Pell in the interim if they want to be more subtle about it.

It's not like he's in a contracted position that contains any measure of success. There's nothing to sack him from, he's just being replaced and the club is creating distance.

Still, this should've happened years ago when he admitted to shuffling priests around when they got caught.

Why do you think they haven’t done it? Does that not tell you enough? You hardly have to guess as to the reasons why.

Pell’s performance back in the 90s during the state parliamentary inquiry and subsequent actions was enough to make you sick. That alone should have been enough to not go near this guy.

Just received this from the club:

Given the news about Cardinal Pell yesterday we can inform you that he has been removed as a Vice Patron of the Richmond Football Club.

Sounds like they just don’t want to give it any air time.

Should of happened awhile ago.

Richmond have removed Cardinal George Pell from an ambassadorial role with the club following his conviction for child sexual abuse.
The Tigers confirmed on Tuesday that they have informed Pell he will no longer hold the position of vice-patron of the club – an honorary role as club ambassador.

"The Richmond Football Club has today removed Cardinal George Pell as a club vice-patron. While acknowledging his right to appeal, the club has formed a view that his association is no longer tenable or appropiate," the Tigers said in a statement provided to The Age.
Pell's connection with Richmond stretches back to 1959, when the budding ruckman was signed by the club, where he trained prior to entering the priesthood. He would subsequently rise to become archbishop of both Melbourne and Sydney and then one of the Vatican's most senior figures.
Pell continued to be a Richmond supporter and held the position of vice-patron – along with several other prominent and distinguished public figures – for many years.
Richmond opted to stand by Pell when he was first charged with historical child sex abuse crimes, on the grounds the cardinal – who had risen to the highest rank any Australian has reached at the Vatican – was entitled to a presumption of innocence while the matters were being heard in court

Where there’s smoke there’s fire and nothing was done until recently.

Mate

Nothing was done due to legal reasons surrounding the matter.

Might be best if you stop posting in this thread, remember where you are (i.e not the bay)
